Suspected attacker dead in Paris after car crashes into police vehicle
Witnesses describe the car as erupting in flames following the ramming and a bomb disposal unit is now attending the scene.
A suspected attacker is dead after driving into a police vehicle on the Champs-Elysees, officials in Paris have said.
A spokesman for the French interior ministry, Pierre-Henry Brandet, said the driver's car exploded as he tried to ram a police vehicle.
Mr Brandet said the driver, who appeared to have acted deliberately, was dead.
Gerard Collomb, the French Minister for the Interior, told reporters near the scene Monday that the man's motives weren't immediately clear.
Mr Collomb said the car was carrying explosives and attempted to ram a police convoy in an "attempted attack" on security forces.
His car is described as having gone up in flames after the attempted ramming. Reports suggest the attacker was badly burned.

http://news.sky.com/story/man-wearing-explosive-belt-shot-by-police-at-brussels-central-station-10921714
Belgian troops patrolling a major train station in Brussels have "neutralised" a person following an explosion.
Police say they are unable to confirm media reports that the suspect was wearing an explosive belt.
The incident has taken place at Brussels Central - the country's busiest station - and officials say the situation is now under control.
A police spokesman said: "There was an explosion around a person. That person was neutralised by the soldiers that were on the scene."
It is not clear whether the person who was shot is still alive - but apart from the suspect, no other casualties have been reported.
Pierre Meys, a fire service spokesman, told RTL that some kind of explosion has happened in the station, but it is unclear what caused the blast.
Brussels Central has been evacuated, with rail services from the station suspended. Grand Place, a major tourist site which lies about 200m (656ft) away, has also been evacuated.
Belgium has been on high alert since suicide bombers killed 32 people on the Brussels subway and at an airport on 22 March 2016.
People in the area are being pushed away from the scene, and police on Twitter have urged the public to follow instructions given by the authorities.
The incident began at about 9pm local time (8pm UK time) on Tuesday evening.
