A CONCEALED basement was discovered in one of Josef Fritzl's former homes - years before he caged his daughter as a sex slave and raped her more than 3,000 times.

Two construction workers found a waiting room which had a staircase leading into a frightening space, at the monstrous dad's guesthouse in Unterach am Mondsee, Austria.

For years, Rosemarie Fritzl and her husband Josef ran the guesthouse nicknamed, 'Seestern', German for Starfish.

In 1996 the Fritzls left the property, which is now rented by a man only identified as Helmut L.

After the two workers found the staircase, they also found some glass tiles in front of a wall.

Describing the frightening hidden space, Helmut L. said: "There are cavities everywhere in the house."

Bizarrely, according to local media, the house was never properly inspected by the police even after they learned about Fritzl's crimes in his next property.
