Tucson police confirmed the death of little Isabel Celis, known as "the American Maddie McCann" because of the similarity of both cases.
Isabel disappeared with only six years of age of its room in 2012, leaving no trace beyond an open window.
According to the Daily Mail, his remains were discovered about a month ago, but so far the police had not confirmed the DNA. Although the authorities confirmed the identity of the girl, it was not yet possible to decipher the cause of death.
The police chief assured that this was not the end of the case and they would not rest until they knew more.
"Obviously, this is not the end we were expecting, but at the same time, it is not the end of the case. We are working very aggressively, just as we would with any case involving the death of a child, "the official said.
No further details were given to the public because the investigation is still ongoing. However, it is known to the media that the case has extraneous elements and was considered as child abduction.
The parents wrote a painful statement, thanking the community for their support and asking for privacy:
"We want to thank the community for the support they have given us over the years and to keep us from losing hope. Now is our time to mourn. We ask that you give us privacy to do so. "
Police continue to ask the population to collaborate with the case.
"This is a very important step in the case, so that's one reason why we keep asking the population if they have any leads. We believe that there are people who may know something or think they know and who, at the moment, will want to confess. "
