Fake Royal Mail postman ‘tries to ABDUCT two girls’ on Brit street
POLICE have launched a manhunt for a bogus postman in a fake Royal Mail van who tried to snatch two girls off a Brit street.
By Nicholas Bieber / Published 27th April 2018
The attempted kidnapper tried to carry out the abduction in a village near Braintree in Essex after pulling up in a red van.
He asked two girls on a street in Black Motley to get inside, and when the girls hesitated, cops say he tried to drag one of them in the van.
The schoolgirls – both under 10-years-old – managed to break free from the man, who is said to have a distinctive skull and crossbones tattoo, before running off.
They told cops the van had a Royal Mail logo on the side but checks later revealed none of their vehicles were in the area when the attempted snatch took place at 6.15pm on Tuesday.
The suspect has been described as in his 30s or 40s, and was wearing a baseball cap under a black hooded jacket and dark glasses.
He is also believed to have a skull and crossbones tattoo on his right hand, with a red slash across it.
Detective Inspector Rob Kirby of Braintree CID said: "These incidents are rare, and we understand that this can raise concern in the local community.
"The girls did exactly the right thing by running to a place of safety and letting someone know what had happened to them.
"We are investigating to establish the circumstances of this incident, and are carrying out a number of enquiries to try and trace any vehicles that may have been involved."
