Re: Flooding Chaos In Ireland and UK
Oh my! There has also been severe rain around the west coast of Britain?
Was looking to see if it was heading for London.

Re: Flooding Chaos In Ireland and UK
I think it is the tail end of a hurricane, again, Tony - we usually get them a week or ten days later.
It's moving east, so London should get a hose-down tomorrow, Lily - not weather to be in a tent!

Bonny. I hope it doesn't tragically wash any tents away.

Actually it has bucketed a bit here today, and blown a gale. Over now.

Most of the day. Morbihan is on The Atlantic Coast and I am about 50 miles inland.

The good news is that my rainwater butts are now nearly full. This means that I won't have to cart water from the nearest stream for the dog who won't drink tapwater.

Those photos are something else, Anita. Sorry to see that.
Also, sorry about your rain, Bonny but glad you don't have to schlep water for your dog, Sabot.
Are you close to Carnac, Sabot?

About 30 miles. Really nice place. I used to clean a holiday home down there. Very 1950s Torquay.

I saw a program about it, Sabot. Well part of the program was. It is more fascinating when seen from a plane. That begats other questions .......

The Standing Stones are debatable, Lily. They are laid out in rows, and look like grave stones to me, albeit ancient.
I have a piece of mounted stone from there that someone gave me, so there must have been a bit of looting at some time. It is only small, but very heavy.

I think that what has also been raised is the mathematics of their alignment when we are dealing with early uneducated people.
Oh wow, Sabot. Lucky you for having a bit of a stone.

Mathematics has always been easy, Lily, because it is so. And there has always been the equivalent of a piece of string.

True, Sabot. It's simply fascinating to marvel at how they did certain things with what they had available at that time. Carnac dates from 4500 to 3300 BC approximately?

But they still had powers of reasoning. Stretch a piece of string to get a straight line.
Drop a piece of string with a stone tied to it and you have a vertical line. Nothing very scientific about that. I do all sorts with a piece of string. And I do not believe that Neolithic Man was stupid.

I know what you can do with string and what plumb lines are, Sabot. I still think it is amazing. We can't do that today without machines. Not forgetting Health & Safety.

We lost it all somewhere along the line, Lily. Except for people like me who can't afford machinery and have to do it ourselves.
