First exit polls, according to Sky, seem to have the Conservatives in a dead heat with the radical left?

Not a dead heat, 0.5% between them. New Democracy party is projected to win between 27.5 and 30.5 percent of the vote while the anti-bailout radical left Syriza party may get 27 to 30 percent. Either way, I smell disaster .... LL

Thanks, LL, I am a bit lost in Greek politics. Will yet another inconclusive result be the worst of all possible outcomes?

It's not going to make that much difference. They're broke in Euros and they will still be broke in Drachmas.

Greek People 'Have Voted For The Euro'

0Comments

8:21pm UK, Sunday June 17, 2012
The Greek people have voted in favour of staying in the euro, New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras has told reporters after his party were projected to win the election.

More to follow...

Think he's being a bit optimistic there, somehow.....looks like more drift and uncertainty to me?

He has won by a small margin. Now he needs to find coalition parties to boost his numbers. LL

Isn't that where we were before these elections, LL?

Sort of! Personally, I give up; I have been following the French elections, Hollande has that sewn up very nicely. He has, I think, a majority of about 39 seats. LL

Samaras will struggle to bring people together in coalition with his New Democrats but I think he has a chance now because there is even greater worry in Greece about the future.

edited to add. Having just read the declaration from PASOK I am now not so sure Samara can get a coalition. PASOK say they will only join if Syriza is in a grand coalition but Syriza have refused to consider any coalition. Looks chaotic for a good while yet.

Tsipras from Syriza will not give him an easy time. They are still determined to reject any bailout conditions I think.

Thanks, Greenink, it is rather confusing. To me, it looks like a recipe for more drift, uncertainty and insecurity?
