The publisher of the Ink-China Barbara Bulhosa will consist defendant in the case against the Angolan journalist Rafael Marques, for having published his book "Blood Diamond: Torture and Corruption in Angola ', told Lusa source close to the process.
The Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DIAP) Lisbon reported on Thursday that the Portuguese publisher shall go to their premises, to January 24, 2013, "to be established and interrogated as defendant 'in proceedings in Portugal by several Angolan generals linked to mineral extraction companies, against Rafael Marques, "for libel and slander."
The Angolan journalist and activist accuses them, in a book published in September 2011, resulting from an investigation begun in 2004 of torturing and killing workers in mineral extraction in the Lunda diamond region, especially in the districts of Shah-Muteba and Cuango.
Following the allegations made in the book, Rafael Marques presented on 14 November last year, in Luanda, a criminal complaint against these generals, for "everyday acts of torture and often, murder" against the populations of municipalities covered by mining concessions.
The Attorney General of the Republic of Angola concluded in the month of June, the criminal complaint lodged by Rafael Marques' has no basis "for deciding 'rejection and archiving' and held that 'some facts' denounced by Rafael Marques' not proven ', corresponding to a "theoretical construct without any factual support and legal-juridical'.
A criminal complaint of journalist - whose text Rafael Marques then sent by email to Lusa - identified the "centrality" of the acts complained of would be the responsibility of society Lumanhe - Mining Extraction, Import and Export Ltd., integrating the consortium forming the Mining Society of Cuango (SMC), which holds a 21 per cent.
Rafael Marques accused of 'crimes against humanity' generals Hélder Vieira Dias, better known as 'Kopelipa', Minister of State and Chief of the Military House of the President of the Republic, Carlos Vaal da Silva, inspector general of the General Staff of Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), Armando Neto, governor of Benguela and former Chief of General Staff of FAA, Adriano Makevela, head of the Main Directorate of Education and Preparation of Troops FAA, João de Matos, former Head of State General Staff of FAA, Louis Coquette, former Chief of the Army Staff of FAA, António Coquette, former head of the Division Command, António dos Santos France 'Ndalu', former Chief of the General Staff of FAA , and Paul Lara.
These generals accused Rafael Marques, "have used their institutional power to cover, by action or omission, the arbitrary power of the Mining Society Cuango exercises in the region."
The criminal complaint Rafael Marques stretched yet another company which holds a 38 per cent in the SMC, the ITM-Mining Limited. In this case, among the accused, was also foreigners: five managers identified as having "direct responsibility in the instruction of security measures in the concession area 'are Renato Teixeira, Andrew John Smith, Sergio Costa, Helen M. Forrest and Nadine H. Francis.
The Angolan activist also inscribed in the criminal complaint "the Teleservice private security firm hired by SMC for protection of the concession area 'identified as' executor' direct acts of violence."
Meanwhile, in response to allegations made in the book and in the criminal complaint lodged by Rafael Marques, the generals decided to prosecute him on 09 November this year, "slander and libel" in Portugal, where the book was published, and now extend the charges to the publisher Barbara Bullosa.
