Oxfordshire Child Sex Trafficking Ring Guilty
An Oxfordshire child sex trafficking ring has been convicted of a string of sex offences against six girls aged between 11 and 16.
The men groomed vulnerable young girls, plied them with drugs and alcohol then forced them to have sex with men, subjecting them to both physical and sexual violence.
Brothers Akhtar Dogar 32, and Anjum Dogar, 31, and Kama Jamil, 27 were convicted of rape, facilitating child prostitution and trafficking.
Assad Hussain, 32, was convicted of two counts of sexual activity with a child.
Mohammed Karrar, 38, was found guilty of rape of a child under 13 and procuring abortion, conspiracy to rape, child prostitution and trafficking. His brother Bassam, 33, was found guilty of rape and conspiracy to rape girls under 13, child prostitution and trafficking.
The verdicts were delivered at the Old Bailey at the end of a five-month trial.
Fighting broke out in the dock after two of the nine defendants were cleared.
During the trial the jury heard how the men targeted young and vulnerable girls, who were out drinking or playing truant, some of whom were in care homes.
They plied them with alcohol and introduced them to drugs, including cannabis, crack cocaine and heroin.
Then they subjected them to extreme sexual and physical violence, then sold them for sex to men who travelled from London, Leeds, Slough and Bradford.
A 12-year-old, who was sold for sex between 2004 and 2007, frequently caught Chlamydia. She was covered in bruises and burns from where the men had stubbed cigarettes out on her.
She wept as she described in court how the gang threatened to burn her younger brother alive unless she had sex with them.
But nothing happened after she went to police and when she was 15 she decided to break away from her abusers.
She said police should have done more to protect her but instead they said they would arrest her.
She added: "They threatened on a number of occasions to arrest me for wasting police time for turning up at a police station in a state after running away.
"Any self-respecting police officer would have seen something was wrong.
"If you pick up a child who is covered in cigarette burns and bruises, something is fundamentally wrong.
"Adults should be doing their jobs, it's not down to a child."
One girl told how she was so terrified that she tried to leap from a hotel window after being forced to have sex with one man only to discover another man would be next.
She also told how the men had branded her with a "smile" using an electronic cigarette lighter.
The men, all of Pakistani or North African descent, ran their brutal child sex ring between 2004 and 2012.
In his opening statement to the court in January, the prosecutor, Noel Lucas QC, warned the jury: "The depravity, and I use that word with care, of what was done to the complainants was extreme.
"The facts in this case will make you feel uncomfortable."
The seven men found guilty of offences against the six girls were remanded in custody for sentencing next month.
