RAF fighter jets are escorting a Pakistan Interntional Airlines aircraft from Manchester Airport to Stansted Airport.

The airline has confirmed it is for security reasons. There are understood to be 297 passengers on board.

The plane was heading west towards Manchester when it was suddenly re-routed near York and headed back out to the North Sea, before travelling south to Stansted.

It has now landed at the airport.

It seems the plane has now landed safely at Stansted and two people have been arrested.

A witness speaking in Urdu to Pakistani station Geo TV, said that two men over 6 feet tall tried to enter the pilot's cabin.

Essex Police have confirmed that two men have been arrested on suspicion of endangerment of an aircraft after the plane landed safely at Stansted.

Another passenger speaking to Sky news just now is saying much the same thing.

Latest is that the men told the purser there was a bomb on board, then later said it was just a joke. I hope that little comment gets them some jail time!! LL Shocked

What a pair of ar@eholes - when are morons going to get it into their thick heads that death threats and bomb hoaxes are not 'jokes'?

I hope they get jail time - and ordered to pay for the RAF jets, and compensation to the airline and other passengers.

Can you imagine what was going through the RAF guys' heads when they were scrambled? They will have been wondering if this was it, and they really were going to have to shoot down a civilian airliner over the North Sea.
