Wasn't there something about a known paedophile with a partner whose Bank Card was used in Lisbon, and this was cited as his alibi.

That's exactly the kind of thing the Yard would be checking, IMO, it wouldn't be good enough that Team Amaral said, Oh, the paedophile says he was in Lisbon then, and anyway, the parents DONE IT so it isn't relevant.

It was the first thing that occurred to me, Bonny, that his partner or possibly even someone else had used his bank card.  It's exactly the sort of thing that a crook planning a crime would try on.  And not immediately easy to prove wrong in the absence of CCTV in the bank.
