Madeleine McCann: 150 Calls After Dutch Appeal
Police are investigating dozens of calls from members of the public following a television appeal for new information.

Police have received 150 phone calls from the public after an appeal about Madeleine McCann was aired on Dutch television.

Officers at Scotland Yard said they received the calls after the appeal was broadcast on the Netherlands crime programme, Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday evening.

The news comes after Madeleine's parents said they were "absolutely delighted" with the "overwhelming" response to a new appeal for information about her disappearance featured on BBC's Crimewatch programme.

Following a similar appeal on Norway's TV2 channel on Monday, a Norwegian woman has claimed to have seen a girl resembling Madeleine with a strange man when she was on holiday in Spain two years ago.

The woman contacted former police superintendent Finn Abrahamsen with the tip-off after the ex-policeman appeared on TV2 to discuss a new suspect in the case.

Mr Abrahamsen said: "There was a lady who had been on holiday in Spain two years ago.

"She was at a shopping mall and believed she observed the missing girl with an older man. She's pretty sure this could be Madeleine McCann.

"It is a huge challenge and we should not have too high expectations, but we can't give up until we've tried everything. We have already seen that it flows in tips from throughout Europe, and it becomes even more focused on Germany and Holland.

"We can hope that more people will react to some of the important tips that has come. For example, the observations of a man who has been carrying away a child.

"If more tips with similar observations comes in, it can be very interesting."

Mr Abrahamsen urged anyone with information to contact their local police who would liaise with Scotland Yard.

"We have a good contact with British police," he said. "This good contact has lasted over the years. It is easy for the police in Norway to pass on tips. So contact the Norwegian police, and ask them to pass it on."

Detectives have released two e-fit images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the case based on the accounts of two separate witnesses.

Both described seeing him in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on the evening of the three-year-old's disappearance on May 3, 2007.

He is said have been seen walking towards the sea carrying a child of a similar age to Madeleine.

I really cannot imagine how the McCanns felt, seeing that shambling oaf yesterday, still mumbling rubbish, Lily.

I honestly think that if, say, Rebelo, or someone of his calibre, had been in charge from Day One, there's a good chance that Madeleine would have been found and reunited with her family.

You've only got to look at his stupid 'book' to see that Gonzo was off on the wrong track only twelve hours into the investigation.

Rebelo would have been Madeleine's best chance back then, Bonny. He had way better credentials and respect than Gonc could ever have hoped for?

She drew the short straw with that slovenly, ghastly oaf. The poor child.

What did she do to deserve that? It has been that shocking.

Fortunately though, SY have been pulling out all the stops to try to make up for his embarrassing so called investigation.

Those who are supporting him need their heads thoroughly examined to be honest. I don't see any respectable people applauding him.

Madeleine: 500 Calls After German TV Appeal

Police are investigating dozens of leads from the public in Germany following similar appeals on Dutch and Norwegian television.

German broadcaster ZDF has received 500 phone calls and emails after airing a programme on the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

Madeleine's parents launched an appeal for information to help them find their daughter on the television show "Aktenzeichen XY ungeloest," Germany's version of BBC's Crimewatch programme.

"Please have the compassion and courage to tell us what happened to her," her mother Kate McCann said on the programme which was watched by 7.26 million people, its highest rating in 15 years.

A spokesman for the broadcaster said: "After the broadcast of Aktenzeichen XY the number of tip-offs rose to more than 500".

It is not known how much of the information will prove useful to police, who received 150 phone calls from the public after a similar appeal was aired on Dutch television on Tuesday evening.

Officers at Scotland Yard said they received the calls after the appeal was broadcast on the Netherlands crime programme, Opsporing Verzocht.

Kate and Gerry McCann said they were "absolutely delighted" with the "overwhelming" response to a new appeal for information about her disappearance featured on Crimewatch.

Following a similar appeal on Norway's TV2 channel on Monday, a Norwegian woman has claimed to have seen a girl resembling Madeleine with a strange man when she was on holiday in Spain two years ago.

Good to see the Gonc Fan Club is too dumb to work out why the German appeal is slightly different from the UK appeal.

Here's a clue - the people the Yard would like to hear from may well be German, so different parts of the events leading up to Madeleine's abduction are emphasised in the hope of jogging German memories.

It seems to be working, too - thankfully, the rest of the world isn't as thick and nasty as the McCann-haters.

There are other countries in Europe where German is the first or polyglot language,ie where other languages, usually Frenach and Italian are in use, and where German TV is freely available:
Germany - 82.7 million
Austria - 8.1 million
Switzerland - 4.6 million (about 1/4 of the [of the population)
Liechtenstein - 32,000
Luxemborg

Also most countries in Europe have German and English as their second and third languages, usually the ones who were occupied in WW2. It is also spoken in Russia and Turkey. LL

Amaral's book was published in 2008!!!!

Good spot!!

Yes, we know - and? Have these half-wits somehow managed to 'forget' all the tabloid headlines in autumn 2007 - the lies and smears from sources in the PJ that cost the UK media so much money?

After reading the black hearted ones hate for so long and seeing the German version, it was profoundly sad to watch. With the realization of what Kate and Gerry have been, and continue to go through, the program was powerful.

That is what so many people will have felt when viewing. That is why so many people want to help. The amount of people who called in to help with information are but a small proportion of the people who actually care.

Sometimes after reading around the hate sites, it is easy to despair for the McCanns. The mentally unbalanced idiots spewing their libelous hate day in and and day out because it makes them feel good.

What an amazing display of real people in the real world. Wishing to help and make a difference to the life of a young girl and her family. God bless them all.

Latest re appeal over Operation Grange
October 17, 2013, 6:44 pm

Detectives from Operation Grange have now received over 2400 calls and emails into the Incident Room since their appeal for information following the BBC1 Crimewatch programme on Monday 14th October regarding the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood travelled to Holland and Germany to appear on programmes there to repeat the appeal he issued in the UK.

He said today:”I appeared on the programmes to directly appeal for the public’s help on the significant lines of enquiry.

“Over 350 people have phoned into the studio of Opsporing Verzocht in Holland and 500 in Germany through Aktenzeichen XY.

“Those enquiries are now being assessed and prioritised. Any deemed high being actioned.”

“We have been very pleased with the information that is coming into the Incident Room. All of that material will be prioritised and actioned by the Operation Grange team.

“The next stage of the appeal will be in Ireland later in the month.”

What a wonderful response from the public. Keep it coming. yaydance

I wonder how it would have been more than 6 years ago when it was first suggested to do a Crimewatch show in PdL.

Strange that the Wonder Cop didn't want anything like that to happen. Mutter, mutter, airspace closed, mutter, mutter, tourists.

Obviously we will never know but can only muse that Madeleine may well have been back where she belonged.

Considering that this case receives world wide attention you would think he would not have come out with those er.......backward unprofessional comments. Does he realize how he is making Portugal sound?

Not a smart move.
