A judge ordered Goncalo Amaral to hand over receipts - Gerry and KateMcCann are suing him for £1million over his book The Truth of the Lie

Disgraced former detective Goncalo Amaral was yesterday ordered by a judge in Lisbon to reveal how much cash he made from a book about the bungled Madeleine McCann probe.

Amaral, 56, has 10 days to hand over receipts.

The book’s publishers and the producers of a TV documentary were also instructed to reveal how much they paid him in royalties.

Gerry and Kate, both 45, are suing him for £1million over his book The Truth of the Lie, in which he claimed they covered up their girl’s death in the Algarve in 2007.

He denies defamation.

That isn't good for Amaral. Judge asking for proof of money made, that isn't good at all.

OMG! No wonder witnesses apparently weren't heard yesterday!

There's a good few people interested in Gonc's finances, I understand - banks he owes money to, the Portuguese taxman, the brother he tried to defraud....

After all, they got Al Capone for tax evasion in the end, didn't they?  

And I wonder if Gonc's antics on CMTV were mentioned to the court? Wouldn't be surprised....

PS - that isn't the most flattering photo of Gonc in the Mirror....

Incidentally, why was there no Officially Edited Court Report of this bombshell yesterday? Don't say someone was hoping to censor this news? Because right now, it looks as if we would have known nothing of this if it hadn't been for the British media.

Incidentally, attempting to spin this as Ms Duarte 'demanding' this information be revealed to the court, rather than than reporting it correctly -

can only be interpreted as desperation in Team Gonc.

What Settlement? The Divorce Settlement? I thought all of his money had been sequestered by The Court, including his house.

Well, most of the evidence has been presented to the court in document form, Sabot, so I have no doubt that the judge is all too aware of Gonc's spendthrift habits and dislike of paying debts - he may not even have paid the court costs for his disaster in Faro, despite being ordered to.

Kathy Belle The only thing I can say about that report is, thank goodness it's being reported by a tacky tabloid, If it was one of the broadsheets, who made that report, I'd be getting worried, that things were now going the McCanns way.

Why aren't they asking Guedes why she saw fit to censor this, and a few other things that have happened in court?

It is very difficult to recover money from property bought in foreign countries.

I was just remembering all the talk from Lovely Sofa about how she wouldn't dream of divorcing Goncalol just to protect his assets.

The sequestered funds never did add up to what Amaral must have earned. This is why they took his house. I mentioned this some time ago.

He has to prove every cent he received from book/TV sales, not what he has paid out. The divorce settlement will not be taken into account. Nor will his retirement pension.

Wonder if the bill for birthday fireworks will be revealed? And to think those saps on the hate sites are giving him money for 'legal bills'.

Indeed he does. But if there isn't enough money to pay The McCanns he will just be declared bankrupt. Recovering any money that might have been spent on property in spain would be very difficult.

The court will award them x amount and then their lawyers will pursue him to infinity. Ditto the tax man etc.
