Barriers have been erected around the fountains in Trafalgar Square to try and stop revellers jumping in the water amid the excitement as the clock strikes 12am

How does that work? I'm already soaked because it's been raining for days, but I am also p*ssed as a newt, so I will jump in the fountains to get even colder and wetter...

Three days of events to welcome in the New Year get under way in Scotland's capital.

A torchlight procession through the centre of Edinburgh kicks off the city's official Hogmanay celebrations on Monday night.

Around 7500 torchbearers and a crowd of 20,000 people are expected to wind along The Mound and Princes Street towards Calton Hill, led by Shetland's Up Helly Aa Vikings and the massed pipes and drums.

Fireworks and another "son et lumiere" (sound and light) display will add to the visual spectacle.
