Sexual abuse of children has increased 14% in 2013

in 2013, the Judicial Police (PJ) opened 1227 inquiries about child sexual abuse crimes, 14% more than the previous year.

This crime represented more than half the total of 2372 inquiries of sex crimes investigated by this police. According to the PJ data sent to the Internal Security System (SSI) to the Annual Report of crime, there were 330 persons constituted defendants suspected of abusing children, but there is still no record of arrests.

Sexual crimes, which include, among others, violations (which also increased), sexual acts with teenagers, child pornography and sexual coercion, deserve special mention in this document. Over the past year were arrested 155 suspects for these crimes, of which 67 are in custody. 780 were made defendants for sexual offenses.

Let's hope your country is starting to take this seriously, Pedro, some of the crimes against children in Portugal are stomach-turning, even by UK standards.

And the penalties are ridiculously light.

I agree with you, but, I don´t have much faith in PT justice system.
