I would actually suspect the US has gone further downhill than a mere oligarchy. As US politicians are acting as if the next resident of the White House must be called either Bush or Clinton, it's giving every impressions of having become a rather decadent Empire, with a handful of prominent families taking it in turn to be head of state.

Oh yes and they are all set for the next generation. Chelsea has received her doctorate from Oxford in global governance too.

Way to go! Get genuine health workers killed, and ensure that polio, etc., will take hold again, as no-one in these areas can trust Western health workers now, especially American ones.

Obama makes surprise visit to Afghanistan to visit troops



President Obama has made an unannounced visit to Afghanistan this Memorial Day weekend, Fox News has learned.

The president landed at Bagram Air Field, in Afghanistan, at about 8:30 p.m. local time, or 11: 46 a.m. Eastern time.

This is the fourth trip of his presidency and the first since May 2012.

Also making the trip with Obama on Air Force I is National Security Adviser Susan Rice, senior White House adviser John Podesta, whose son is serving in Afghanistan, advisers Dan Pfeiffer and Ben Rhodes, and country music star Brad Paisley, who will perform for troops during the visit.


He'd better hope the Taliban haven't got hold of any of the MANPADS he's been supplying to the Syrian terrorists.

Not impressed.

I gather Karzai wasn't either, he apparently refused to meet Obama at the airport and only spoke to him on the phone.

The CIA’s top officer in Kabul was exposed Saturday by the White House when his name was inadvertently included on a list provided to news organizations of senior U.S. officials participating in President Obama’s surprise visit with U.S. troops.

The White House recognized the mistake and quickly issued a revised list that did not include the individual, who had been identified on the initial release as the “Chief of Station” in Kabul, a designation used by the CIA for its highest-ranking spy in a country.

The disclosure marked a rare instance in which a CIA officer working overseas had his cover — the secrecy meant to protect his actual identity — pierced by his own government. The only other recent case came under significantly different circumstances, when former CIA operative Valerie Plame was exposed as officials of the George W. Bush administration sought to discredit her husband, a former ambassador and fierce critic of the decision to invade Iraq.

The Post is withholding the name of the CIA officer at the request of Obama administration officials who warned that the officer and his family could be at risk if the name were published. The CIA and the White House declined to comment.
