I am devastated! I have every one of his books and the thought of no more Discworld, Death, The Unseen University, gnomes, goblins and fantastic creatures he has conjured up over the years fills me with deep sadness. Rest in Peace, Sir Terry woud will be sadly missed. LL

Another sad loss, LL - though I understand he has been in increasingly poor health for a while?

Yes, he had a rare version of Alzheimers. I have just emailed my elder son, also a keen fan, he will be so upset. Mr Death signature is an illustreation for one of his books. LL

He had a special power, the one that makes a writer great - he drew word pictures that appealed to a wide diversity of readers. The first one I read was 'Reaper Man' which was about Death being made redundant and I was hooked. Anyone who has a fear of death should read that book. And his books had such a diverse cast of characters, everyone unique. LL

Message on Terry's website from his friend and assistant, Rob Wilkins:

Terry passed away in his home, with his cat sleeping on his bed surrounded by his family on 12th March 2015. Diagnosed with PCA1 in 2007, he battled the progressive disease with his trademark determination and creativity, and continued to write. He completed his last book, a new Discworld novel, in the summer of 2014, before succumbing to the final stages of the disease.

It seems his writer's mantle has devolved onto his daughter, Rhianna. LL

It must be a comfort for his family that he slipped away at home, LL, with his family round him.
