Danish clubs use language rules to keep refugees out

After growing reports of male refugees and asylum centres harassing female guests, several nightclubs are now requiring that all patrons be able to speak Danish, English or German in order to come in.

Women in at least three Danish cities have reported in recent days that they feel uncomfortable at night because of the way refugees and asylum seekers behave in bars and nightclubs.

As a result, some drinking establishments have implemented new procedures to keep harassment to a minimum. Some have turned to having extra security guards while others have started a new policy to keep out guests who are unable to communicate with staff.

The Buddy Holly discotheque in Sønderborg has a rule that no one can enter the premises unless they can prove that they speak either Danish, English or German. According to the industry group Danmarks Restauranter og Cafeer, which has over 1,500 members nationwide, several other night clubs are considering a similar move.

“If you have a group of guests that comes in and displays threatening behaviour then it presents some security-related challenges if you cannot enter into a dialogue,” the organization’s managing director, Torben Hoffmann Rosenstock, told TV2.

The plan to sort guests by their language abilities is not without its critics. Claus Juul, a consultant with Amnesty International, said barring guests who can’t speak Danish or English is clearly discriminatory.

“You can’t make a general rule that states that you can’t come in if you come from a certain country that has created problems before,” he told TV2.

The issue came to the forefront after women in Thisted, Haderslev and Sønderborg reported that some refugees and asylum seekers display aggressive behaviour, touch women inappropriately and refuse to take no for an answer.

Fascinating to see that it is now raycist to want to protect women from sexual assaults.

No one is forced to speak French in France or Spanish in Spain. Although I think it is good basic good manners. And anyway, you would get far living here if you can't speak French. Waving your hands and shouting a lot doesn't work.

Learning the language of the host country shows how you are wanting to integrate. I think it's a double whammy when people don't try to learn even a word or two.

This follows disclosures that Siddhartha Dhar (also known as Abu Rumaysah) fled the UK to join Isil in 2014 despite being on the authorities' radar, having been arrested six times.

After a call from Mr Trump failed to transpire, phone-in host Iain Dale asked Mr Salmond whether he thought the presidential hopeful was "chicken".

He responded: "The Donald tries to give this impression that he's totally off the cuff, in fact his media operation controls him and protects him from tough interviews and when he's had tough interviews he hasn't liked it, that's been pretty obvious.

"So, I've got the feeling that he'll be loathe to come on because both you and I would answer him back, just as he'd be loathe to get interviewed by the top interviewers.

"If he doesn't come on, we'll keep challenging him and maybe 'chicken Donald' will catch on."

Oh, FFS, Eck, just shut up, you've all embarrassed yourselves more than enough for one week.

Trump has an unbelievable full schedule at the moment. That's all part of the election circus. I'm sure he would give him time afterwards....

It'll serve Oor Eck right if The Donald wins - and bars him from the US. Eck seems to have lost the plot over this feud.

He may be thinking about safety in numbers? Should Trump win there will be some humble pie to eat.

TROUBLED Prestwick Airport, owned by the Scottish Government, has been involved in ­negotiations with Donald Trump in an effort to return it to profit – at the same time as senior SNP figures have been calling for the US presidential candidate to be banned from the UK, Scotland on Sunday can reveal.

The Scottish Government was last night accused of hypocrisy and urged to disclose the precise nature of its relationship with the controversial Republican frontrunner after a tranche of correspondence detailed Prestwick Airport’s extensive dealings with Trump.

Officials at the loss-making Glasgow Prestwick Airport and Trump’s executives have explored working together to “win” business and the “integration” of their operations.


The precise nature of Prestwick’s high-profile ties with the controversial US presidential candidate has long been unclear. It was described in a joint press release in November 2014 as an “official partnership” and a “strategic alliance.”

The airport now insists it has no “official partnership contract in place” with the magnate or his Turnberry resort and that he has merely offered a “show of support” for the beleaguered hub.

But a tranche of documents released to Scotland on Sunday show the airport has held unminuted discussions over “potential partnership opportunities” and disclosed business development targets with Trump Turnberry, which has not been required to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDA).

The relationship was announced in grand style two years ago when Trump touched down at Prestwick in his Boeing 757 jet. The airport charges him undisclosed fees for fuelling, airside parking, landing charges and hangar space for the aircraft and his Sikorsky S-76 helicopter.

Although there have been no further public announcements, the correspondence – released under Freedom of Information (FoI) legislation – details extensive private discussions.

The airport said it “holds a presentation that was shared with Trump Turnberry in relation to business development targets.” However, it withheld it from the FoI release, claiming it would “prejudge our commercial interest”.

It added that “it has had dialogue from employees from Trump Turnberry resort to discuss potential partnership opportunities. There were no minutes taken of these discussions.”

In an email sent last March to Ralph Porciani, general manager at Trump Turnberry, Jules Matteoni, Prestwick’s manager of fire service, passenger services, transport and security, asked to meet Turnberry staff at “short notice” to “have a think about integration of your business and ours before the season starts”.

He referenced a meeting at Prestwick four days previously with Porciani, stating: “I trust you have confidence in the operation now.”

'Hypocrisy' doesn't even begin to cover it.

Absolute imbeciles. I hope the idiots behind that particular piece of pointless virtue-signalling are feeling just a little bit worried this morning. The only saving grace is that the local MP went against the official SNP line and spoke up for Trump, praising what he's doing at Turnberry.

Because the rest are going to look really bl**dy stupid when President Trump lands at Prestwick in Air Force One to visit his golf course.

I suspect that he will be very gracious though, Bonny. So many people say that he is actually a really good guy who is kind and will help anyone if he can.

One man tried to help fix his car late at night when he had broken down. The guy did what he could but told him he would have to come back after taking the part home and working on it. He did, he fixed the car and Trump went on his way. Unbeknown to the guy for a little while was that Trump had traced down the mortgage on his house and quietly paid it off.

He has done many things like that.

I have no doubt he rewards loyalty, Lily - but I doubt if he will forget that idiocy in a hurry. He may, of course, simply decide that mega-success is the best revenge.

Trump must be favourite to win Nevada, seeing as how he owns a chunk of Vegas.....
