IMO, the hate squad simply cannot face reality and drop their abuse of the McCanns. Firstly, they have far too much emotional investment in their spite and bile.

And secondly, it would mean facing the truth about what they themselves are - nothing better than an ignorant, sick, internet lynch mob.

For me it has always been quite simple. Goncalo Amaral was in serious trouble over The Cipriano Case, and desperately needed another Child Killing Mother to get him off the hook of what a moron he had been.
He just didn't allow for the fact that he wasn't dealing with ignorant peasants on this occasion.
