Prince Philip In Hospital After Chest Pains

Prince Philip In Hospital After Chest Pains 16136532

The Duke of Edinburgh has been admitted to hospital for "precautionary tests" after
suffering chest pains, Buckingham Palace says.

The Queen's husband was taken to Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire from Sandringham in Norfolk, where the royal family is gathering to celebrate Christmas.
Sky's royal commentator Dickie Arbiter said: "The Duke of Edinburgh's health is actually pretty good given that he is 90.
"He has had these chest pains before and I don't think it's anything untoward, but given his age they are being safe rather than sorry.
"I am sure we are going to see him on Christmas Day and he can look forward to accompanying the Queen in the New Year."

Ah yes, that is what Papworth is famous for, isn't it, Sadie?

Probably just one of the niggles of age, he seems pretty fit for a man of his age.

He is brilliant isn't he?

A friend of mine used to voluntarily fly hearts and other organs to Papworth for Sir Magdi Yacoub, the famous heart surgeon. I think she was usually standby second pilot. She had her own light aircraft, part share, and she reckoned that night, or day, she could have her aircraft, quite a few miles away, in the air within half an hour. As an ex SY officer/driver she knew how to make her motorcar move. Time was of an essence.

She said what a lovely man Yacoub was.

What a worthwhile thing to do, Sadie - a vital part of the transplant team.

Prince Philip Treated For Blocked Artery

The Duke of Edinburgh has been treated for a blocked coronary artery after suffering chest pains, Buckingham Palace says.

The Queen's husband was flown to the cardiothoracic unit at Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire from Sandringham House in Norfolk, where the royal family is gathering to celebrate Christmas.
A statement from Buckingham Palace said: "Following tests at Papworth Cardiothoracic Hospital in Cambridge this evening, The Duke of Edinburgh was found to have a blocked coronary artery which had caused his chest pains.
"This was treated successfully by the minimally invasive procedure of coronary stenting.
"Prince Philip will remain in hospital under observation for a short period."
Consultant cardiologist Dr Iqbal Malik said that it appeared the Duke probably was having a heart attack which Papworth Hospital "successfully aborted".

Papworth is the UK's largest specialist cardiothoracic hospital

"They've found... a blockage which they've managed to get a wire through and use a balloon to disrupt the clot that was blocking up the artery and placed a stent, which a scaffold, to hold the artery open.
"It's vital that the artery gets opened quickly, and that's what seems to have been done at Papworth."

Sky's royal correspondent Paul Harrison said: "There will be a lot of relief, especially as his very closest and more extended family are gathering at Sandringham.
"We believe that the Queen remains at Sandringham ... she was obviously be kept informed and fully up to date."
The 90-year-old's most recent illness was a cold in October that forced him to pull out of an overnight stay in Italy for the launch of the ARC Green Pilgrimage Network.
He had just completed a busy 11-day official tour to Australia with the Queen - who is 85 - that saw them visit Perth, Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane.
The Queen and Prince Philip have a busy year ahead of them with events to mark the 60th anniversary of her accession to the throne.
They are planning to mark the event with a series of tours throughout the country to culminate with a celebration in London in early June that will include a pageant on the River Thames with up to 1,000 boats taking part.
In recognition of his advancing age, it was announced the Duke would step down as president or patron of more than a dozen organisations before he turned 90 in June.

Lucky he was close to Papworth.

It looks like Prince Philip will be with us to cause many more diplomatic disasters for a while yet:

Speaking outside the hospital, Buckingham Palace spokeswoman Ailsa Anderson said: "The Duke of Edinburgh had a good night and is in good spirits but he is eager to leave.
"Tomorrow's church service is going ahead as planned and we don't anticipate
changes to the Royal Family's Christmas celebrations."

As Brits know, Philip has a real gift for putting not one, but both feet in it ....

After being told that Madonna was singing the Die Another Day theme in 2002: “Are we going to need ear plugs?”

is one of his less-awful remarks.

“I’d like to go to Russia very much – although the bastards murdered half my family.” 1967.

is more typical......

Very true, Tony. I think the problem is, most dignitaries would just think that; Philip just blurts it out. I'm surprised the Queen has never hit him (in public at least )- with a ceremonial mace - most long-suffering wives would have by now.

Yes, I think she does, which is how one of her subjects got into her bedroom a while back...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Fagan_incident

Break-ins

It was the 31-year-old's[4]second successful attempt to break into Buckingham Palace. On his first attempt, he scaled a drainpipe, briefly startling a housemaid who called security, who subsequently decided not to act. Fagan entered through an unlocked window on the roof and spent the next half hour eating cheddar cheese and crackers and wandering around. He tripped several alarms, but they were faulty. He viewed the royal portraits and rested on the throne for a while. He then entered the postroom, where the pregnant Diana, Princess of Wales had hidden presents for her first son, William. He drank half a bottle of white wine before becoming tired and leaving.
On the second attempt, an alarm sensor detected him. A worker in the Palace thought the alarm to be false, and silenced the alarm. En route to see the Queen, he broke a glass ashtray, lacerating his hand.
The Queen woke when he disturbed a curtain, after which he sat on the edge of her bed talking to her for about ten minutes. The Queen phoned twice for police but none came. He then asked for some cigarettes, which were brought by a maid. When the maid did not return to base for some time, footman Paul Whybrew appeared. The incident happened as the armed police officer outside the royal bedroom came off duty before his replacement arrived. He had been out walking the Queen's dogs.
[edit]Arrest

Since it was then a civil wrong rather than a criminal offence, Michael Fagan was not charged for trespassing in the Queen's bedroom. He was charged with theft (of the half bottle of wine), but the charges were dropped when he was committed for psychiatric evaluation. He spent the next six months in a mental hospital before being released on 21 January 1983. It was not until 2007, when Buckingham Palace became a "designated site" for the purposes of section 128 of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005, that what he did became illegal.[5] Fagan's mother later said, "He thinks so much of the Queen. I can imagine him just wanting to simply talk and say hello and discuss his problems."[1]

It could only happen in Britain..like the British PM wandering around Mothercare last week with his infant daughter in a backpack...
