I've been following this on and off, Pedro - it would seem this man had been terrorising his family, and having incestuous relations within the family, before he massacred them?

Triple murderer found hanged in cell
The former banker who killed the catanada his wife, daughter and granddaughter in Beja was found hanged this morning in Lisbon Prison.

PSP source told Lusa the man "hanged himself with the sheets of his cell between 22:00 (Thursday) and 01:00 (today)." The same source also indicated that the man was found dead by 02h00.
Francis Hope, 60, had been transferred to Lisbon. On the basis of suicide were fear of reprisal from other inmates and oncology treatments was carried out.
The triple murder was arrested Monday night at home, after having delivered to the PSP. Police found the bodies inside the house the woman, 53, daughter, 28, and granddaughter of four.
Francis Hope incur a penalty from 12 to 25 years in prison for each of three counts of murder.
Police sources have advanced that crimes have been committed for about a week and that the alleged perpetrator of the triple homicide also "killed the animals' home he had at home, including a dog and a cat.

Francisco Esperança, the suspect in triple homicide in Beja, hanged himself at night in the prison cell of Lisbon where, yesterday, had been transferred.

The former banker, who has killed his wife of 53 years, the daughter of 28 and granddaughter of four years, was brought to Lisbon Prison (EPL) for fear of reprisals from other prisoners in jail in Beja, where he spent the night from Wednesday to Thursday.

The alleged murderer was found dead in his cell. According to the DN, he was found to have up-to hanged at night, supposedly with a piece of clothing, more specifically have used the bed sheets ..

The transfer of Francisco Esperança, 56, was also due to health reasons, since the former banker was being subjected to treatment at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology.

Francisco Esperança was captured last Monday at his home in Beja after, officials said, killing the family in seven days. The former banker had already served a prison sentence for embezzling 130,000 euros in the institution that worked well in that city in Alentejo.

Prison Lisbon and Attorney General's Office want to know the circumstances of death by hanging of suspected Beja


The deputy director of the Prison Lisbon (EPL), Conceicao Fernandes, today sent an open inquiry into the death of the suspected murder of his wife, daughter and granddaughter in Beja.

Francis Hope was transferred Thursday to the PLA (location on map below) in order to avoid possible reprisals from the Prison Establishment held in Evora, where he was after his arrest Monday.

However, the Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DIAP) will also investigate the case. Source of the Attorney General's Office, confirmed to Express that opened an investigation into the "circumstances of the suicide."

The agency Lusa reported this morning, citing the source of the PSP, the man suspected in triple homicide was "hanged himself with bedsheets in his cell between 22h and 1h", was found dead at about 2am today.

Francis Hope, a former banking Beja 59, was arrested in Beja on suspicion of murdering the catanada his wife, daughter and granddaughter and their bodies kept at home for a week.
