Not sure if there is a thread about this.

I wonder if the PT press will be covering the Court Case in Faro tomorrow of Goncalo Amaral against Marcos Teixeira da Fonte Aragão Correia and António Pedro de Andrade Dores.

Is this the case where he is claiming that they have defamed him by calling him a perjurer or something even though he actually is a convicted perjurer?

Yes, it's that one; it's the one where the ex-Mrs Amaral will be giving evidence against him, as will his brother, after the business with the house.

I think it's a given that the Portuguese media will be covering a court case with such a high likelihood of sleaze coming out.

I will look up the court diary as soon as I find the link. I know I have had the link before but can't find it at the moment.

The trial of lawyer Marcos Aragão Correia and university professor António Pedro Dores, for defamation of former PJ inspector Gonçalo Amaral, was postponed again today to April 18, said a source close to the process.

According to the lawyer told reporters Antonio Pedro Dores, the only one involved in the process appear in court, Gonçalo Amaral, asked to be heard through videoconferencing.
Absent was also the lawyer Marcos Aragão Correia, who lived in Funchal, which have made the same application to the Court of Faro, requiring that the trial has been postponed for the second time.
The former inspector, who investigated the disappearance of Jane, daughter of Leonor Cipriano sued both by aludirem publicly that the alleged torture that was targeted during the interrogation of the Joana case.
Aragão Correia, Leonor Cipriano's lawyer, argues that courts have already found as a fact that his client was tortured, although the Public Ministry (MP) to maintain the charge in the libel suit that has Gonçalo Amaral as the complainant.
The trial should have begun in February, but pending an appeal brought by Mr Peter Pain, postponed it to today.

I would have thought that that was one case Amaral would want to appear at in person. He can't be doing anything so important it keeps him from Faro, so what's the problem?

I reckon he's scared, Tony, he thought he could still get away with chucking his weight around, with his Stooges and cronies for back-up.

He brought this case; what kind of man then can't get on a bus to attend court and face the people he is accusing?

And he can't plead illness; if he can appear on daytime telly, he can appear in court.

That only leaves cowardice, IMO.

As someone who has more knowledge of the justice system said on another site, it is higly unlikely that the judge will accept MAC trying to smear GA's character by using his ex-wife and brother since the case is not about his family relationships. Gonçalo Amaral could be the worst person on the face of the earth but his character is not what is on trial in this defamation case. You can't defend yourself in court by smearing your opponent, especially with things that are totally unrelated to the case.

Gonc started this action by claiming that his honour, dignity, etc had been insulted by a report stating that he was involved in covering up the torture of Leanor Cipriano.

TWO Portuguese courts found him guilty of doing exactly that.

It is therefore totally relevant to demonstrate that he HAS no honour, dignity or decency.

I thought that lot liked to call themselves Truthseekers - why don't they like hearing the truth about their beloved Gonc?

Gonc was found guilty, in a Portuguese court, of defrauding his own brother, and his brother was awarded damages.

How on earth can someone like Gonc claim to have the slightest shred of 'honour'?

And as Tony says, Gonc does indeed have good reason to be scared - a lot of chickens are coming home to roost now.

Gonc can't complain - he's the one who started this legal action, so he must take the consequences.

How the hell Amaral can bring a case of defamation is beyond me.

However, we don't know what Gong's Brother or his Ex Second Wife are going to testify to. It could well be to do with threats and beatings. We know he threatened his Ex Second Wife on more than one occasion, so perhaps he did the same thing to his Brother. It is the code by which he lives.

I can hardly believe all of this. And I can't say that I find it particularly edifying, but who knows how good Catholics behave in Goncalo Amaral's world where intimidation rules.

And No, I don't feel sorry for The Lovely Sofia. She is as bad as he is. She took the money from the defrauding of Gonc's Brother. And neither of them paid their collective debts.

I feel sorry for his brother, it can't have been easy to watch that oaf strutting around, throwing money around on makeovers, fireworks and earrings, all the time knowing what he was really like.

As for Sofia, well, it will all come out in the wash.

Amaral might have brought The Case before he was convicted, Tony. I don't actually know. But it would have to be pursued, unless Amaral withdrew the complaint. And who knows exactly how insane he is, or how convoluted Portuguese Law is. He just might have seemed to have been defamed at the time. This is always possible in a Legal System that takes twelve years to bring a Case of Torture against another PJ Officer.
Sorry, they haven't actually brought this Torture Case to Trial yet. We could all be dead before they do.

The Nasties will whitewash Sofia Leal, Bonny. But funnily enough they can only do that by agreeing that she she was threatened and intimidated by her thug of a husband.
That will be an interesting one to watch.
Personally, I believe that she gives as good as she gets.
