GONC HASN'T CALLED THE MCCANNS AS WITNESSES IN LIBEL TRIAL?

It's a few days old, and is mainly about the situation five years on.

It was this bit I don't recall seeing:

The McCanns are not only pursuing the search for their daughter; they are also pursuing Gonçalo Amaral, head of the original inquiry. His book, The Truth of the Lie, accuses the McCanns of complicity in their daughter’s death. The British couple are now suing Amaral for libel, claiming €1.25 million. The case, due in court in September, will not result in the couple being put in the witness box, however.

Isabel Duarte, the lawyer fighting the case for the McCanns, says: “My clients are no longer arguidos, they are not defendants in a criminal trial and have the right to be respected. Mr and Mrs McCann will not have to give statements because Mr Amaral did not ask for them.”

Amaral, who is reputed to have earned £300,000 from sales of the book after resigning from the police, is believed nevertheless to have declared bankruptcy. The McCanns have not pursued the option, available to them under Portuguese law, of mounting a criminal prosecution for libel against the former detective.

Bumping for the enlightenment of forkers saying things like:

Perhaps they will use the 'not being allowed to give evidence by video link' as an excuse to withdraw their libel case, after all, ALL they wanted to do is hurt mr amaral and they have done that.

In which event (and I agree it is certainly on the cards that Healy & McCann could withdraw - apart from the fact that vanity and arrogance might override reason), Amaral could counter-sue for the damage to his reputation and sub-poena them to appear in person.

Yer but, why does Amaral not want to call The McCanns? This doesn't make sense for a Detective who knows they done it. This would be the perfect opportunity to ask his 48 Questions, and get answers. And you may be sure that they were His Questions, formulated by him. He was The Coordinator.
But, Oh No, he doesn't want to question them now. Why could this be?

What could he possibly ask them, though, Sabot? Now, we know he has no Ace up his Sleeve - but his cult don't.

IMO I think that is where Murat became involved. He was a property developer, knew the area, had access to empty properties, he helped them, by hiding the body in a freezer, then when the finger was pointed at him, he decided to give her back. Which might not be as macabre as it sounds, all it would mean doing is picking up a sports bag out of the freezer. Hence the body defrosting in the wheel well of the Scenic and leaving evidence.

Apart from that 'theory' being sick and disgusting - the only place which contained the defrosting corpse of Madeleine McCann was Gonc's lurid imagination. As they would know if they ever actually bothered to read the police files.

The real world knows none of that ever happened - so what is Gonc going to do? It's one thing spouting this rubbish on Portuguese daytime TV, quite another backing it up in a court of law with the eyes of the world on him.

He may well change his mind as September draws nearer - but what can he ask the McCanns in a court of law, in public? He knows he is going to be shown up as the liar and braggart he really is, and his book shown up as the pile of poo it is, IMO.

This would be the perfect opportunity to ask his 48 Questions, and get answers.

It would be amply demonstrated that questions about NHS shift systems are totally irrelevant to the abduction of a child.....

We all know why Gonc isn't calling The McCanns, Bonny. But why hasn't it occurred to the Forkers? Or do they think Gonc is still Tick Tocking?
