European Parliament adopts report of Nuno Melo
The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament today approved the report of the CDS-PP MEP Nuno Melo establishing new rules for criminal investigation in Europe.
A statement from the office of MEP says that the draft policy, entitled "Decision of the European Research Area", aims to "create a unique, efficient and flexible for obtaining evidence located in another Member State in criminal proceedings ".
In the opinion of the MEP, the CDS-PP, the policy "will revolutionize the European criminal procedural system as we know," emphasizing the creation of much better conditions and the obligation to coordinate responses of countries to combat crimes such as corruption, terrorism, trafficking of drugs, trafficking of people, financial crimes or organized crime.
Giving as an example the case of Freeport or Madeleine McCann explained that it was already possible to apply the policy, "Portuguese or English judges could, by itself, order another steps in the other country without the need for compliance with legislative and many of the impediments bureaucracy that currently exist. "
"The post-determined the Schengen free movement of people and goods, with inevitable consequences on crime. Should now put an end to some frontier justice, which have been running ahead of the criminals, but preventing an effective response to criminal investigation and proper administration of justice, "the statement concludes.

That's interesting, Pedro, here's hoping it strengthens the Yard's operation a bit?

Yes, I agree with you bb1, this is another reason for PJ to re-open the case, based only in the new evidences uncovered through Scotland Yard.

That sounds as though Scotland Yard can pursue the case if they wish. And I should jolly well hope so too.
Bugger Portugal. Some fine use they have been so far.
