Controversy
Casa Pia children's guinea pigs in scientific experimentation
by DN.PTToday
500 children were students of Casa Pia, over eight years, guinea pigs in a controversial scientific experiment carried out by Portuguese researchers after an invitation from the University of Washington, USA, made in the School of Dental Medicine, University of Lisbon. This matter is the subject of a report to be transmitted today at 21:00 on RTP1.
According to what was advanced yesterday and today in TV News in Jornal da Tarde, both of RTP1, these 500 children were used in experiments whose objective was to discover the effect of mercury in the 'lead' of the teeth and if it caused motor disorders, in memory, attention, concentration and nervous system.
According to some experts who spoke to the state television station, the "Mercury is very toxic."
The participation of children in these experiments was known to the authorities who allowed eight years to submit to tests, as explained by one of the experts polled by RTP, "had never even been done in animals." The invitation of the American university was made in 1996 and the lowest were between 8 and 10 years in the early tests. Some of these children reached the end of the tests with 16 teeth 'bolted'.
The justification for resorting to this group on a trial is justified by the fact that children are considered the best vehicle to test the effects of a substance on health.
The contours of this controversial issue will be known in detail in the "Special Information" transmitted by the journalist author of the research, Rita Marrafa Oak.

God Almighty, Pedro. That is appalling - have these children not suffered enough without being treated as lab rats?
Has whoever thought this up not heard of the Tuskegee syphilis experiment?

Yes, Mengele had ideas like that too.
They should be struck off, the whole lot of them.

bb1, I agree with you.
in my opinion, those who should be used in those experiments are paedophiles, rapists, etc.

They wouldn't be able to use adults in prison, Pedro, because they would be told to get lost - or worse. IMO, they had to use these children, because they would not realise they were being experimented on.

Re: Casa Pia children's guinea pigs in scientific experimentation
I am a bit confused by this. I had all of my Amalgam fillings removed years ago because of the mercury, although my dentist insisted that I was being paranoid.
However, there have been doubts about this for years, and using these young children for experiments is a disgrace.

Re: Casa Pia children's guinea pigs in scientific experimentation
A Portuguese view of this:
Let's shoot kids of Casa Pia Bridge Vasco da Gama?
What else can happen to the kids of Casa Pia? After dozens have been subject to decades of rape and abuse by a handful of criminals it is now, via RTP, a study conducted in partnership between the FMD of the UL and the University of Washington (paid by the U.S. Government) walked during 10 years to put lead in the little body of over 500 children in this institution. 100 children by permission of the Ombudsman (yes, the same gentleman who resigned when it broke the case of pedophilia).
Children from 8 to 10 years served as guinea pigs in experiments tooth for a decade in order to verify the effects on children's health from a mixture containing mercury (lead). That is, they walked for 10 years to see if the health of kids 500 was amended by the way he treated the teeth. According to the report of the RTP, issued May 28, 2012, there were participants who, at the end of this dental program, with 16 teeth were "bolted".
16 teeth bolted? In one child? We will have a generation aluminum soon ... What's next? Shoot half a dozen boys of Vasco da Gama Bridge to see if they can fly? Oblige the guys going through the 2nd round running? Tie them to sand bags and dump them in the North Atlantic to see if there was any gun in David Copperfield and appears to swim in the guesthouse?
The study appears to have concluded that the pellet did not matter to children's health, but according to RTP Consumers for Dental Choice has come forward with a complaint against those responsible for research noTribunal Criminal Hague, claiming that mercury is harmful and caused damage in children. I ask, and if this prove? And if something went wrong? Who will be responsible for damage? Where does the Portuguese state - which is legal guardian of many of these children - in the story? What is the role of the STATE?
What country is this where even after the shamelessness and warning that it was the Casa Pia - in which the STATE LIABLE should have been left for what happens to children in their care - kids are used as an institution of mice laboratory if they were, putting at risk the health of ourselves, continuing to whistle it to the side? Scary.

I am also moving it out of News and into the Main forum. The more people who know about it, the better.

Thank God for Free Speach, eh what. And Gonc can hardly complain about that. Funny it never occurred to them that all of this stuff would be discovered. Jeez, they must think we are all stupid.

But the Gonc Cult ARE stupid, Sabot. It never, ever occurs to them to go and read Portuguese material for themselves, they sit there like sheep, waiting for Morais to feed them propaganda and bullsh*t - shrooms, in fact. They haven't a clue what is really going on, and wouldn't know the truth if it jumped up and bit them on the nose.

Thats probably nothing to what actually goes on, Lily. Wasn't it said, that nothing had changed at Casa Pia, since the big scandal?

Re: Casa Pia children's guinea pigs in scientific experimentation
Nothing changes:
Casa Pia: repetition of the trial to June 29
Four defendants in the case Casa Pia back to sit in the dock already in the next 29 days, to repeat part of the trial .
The Court of 1st Instance scheduled for the 29th of this month to repeat part of the Casa Pia trial. Carlos Cruz, Carlos Silvino, Hugo Marcal and Gertrude Nunes will sit again in the dock.
Ricardo Sá Fernandes, Carlos Cruz's lawyer, has said he will ask for the trial run for the vacations, to be completed within three months.
Recall that in the month of February, the Court of Appeal upheld the convictions of almost all the first instance, but he had to repeat the part relating to alleged crimes committed in Elvas.
According to the judges, the defense of the above four accused had been harmed by them not having been given to know the changes of the indictment.

The contempt being shown by the Portuguese citizens commenting on that says it all. It's beyond a farce, it's a disgrace.

Re: Casa Pia children's guinea pigs in scientific experimentation
I have got an horrible suspicion that some of these people might be Innocent. One of them appears to have been out of the country when he was supposed to have been doing something or another. And The Judge said, "Never mind, it must have been another day." I mean, come on, really?
And there is some dispute about one of the houses which wasn't recognized by the Witnesses as a place that they had been taken to.
Could this be Pay Back by the likes of Cristovao?

Re: Casa Pia children's guinea pigs in scientific experimentation
I remember when the verdicts were supposedly handed down, Sabot, that stupid JCL creature singing the praises of 'Portuguese justice'.
Another one in total denial - I think the only one actually in jail is the Bibi character, who incriminated others to get a lighter sentence?
And yes, one or two of the accused were out of the country at the time of the alleged offences. I suspect an attempt was made to throw a few to the wolves, while the real culprits carried on as before?

So same old bloody same old. No Evidence, but Someone Said. This is never going to go anywhere, Bonny. And the real perpetrators get away with it. How many years, and how much money wasted? And then they Fekcing Experimented with these poor children. And I hope someone takes that to The Court of Human Rights.
