Five people arrested on May 22, were remanded in custody on suspicion of crimes of association to facilitate illegal immigration, marriages of convenience, forged documents and bribes for tort, the SEF said today.
According to the page of the SEF (Foreigners and Borders) on the Internet, five of the 10 arrested in an operation performed on May 22 were in custody and the other five were submitted to measurement of coercion of periodic presentations to the authorities.
This operation was carried out to comply with several court orders, arrest 10, 16 house searches, three and seven establishments in cars, under a criminal investigation is under way in an investigation under the direction of the Department of Investigation and Prosecution (DIAP ) in Lisbon.
With the participation of 77 operational, the operation, which took place in Lisbon, Odivelas, Loures, Seixal and Queluz, possible to dismantle the criminal network which operated in Portugal.
According to the SEF, this network was operating at least since 2009 and made money with the regularization of the Stay of Aliens within the European Union.
The main defendants promoted marriages between Portuguese men and foreign citizens (who were charging about 10 000 euros), so that they subsequently managed to regularize their residence in a EU country.
The network also proceeded to the falsification of documents such as identity cards, passports and residency cards, which were then sold to foreigners.
The criminal organization has dedicated itself to falsification of employment contracts, which sold to citizens of foreign origin, so that they might present to the SEF and obtain residence cards in the country.
The action of the SEF led to the seizure of several high-capacity vehicles, diverse documentation, printers, cameras, computers and stamps, as well as other material counterfeit.
It was also seized a large quantity of CD's and DVD's counterfeit, and the respective equipment counterfeit.
The investigation, which is still continuing, has been to be addressed by the Special Unit for Combating Violent Crime Especially (UECEV) of the Department of Investigation and Penal Action in Lisbon and executed by the SEF.
