Still maybe the same fellow in another role, but this Dr Daniel Sampaio is "vice-chairman of the General Assembly of the Sporting"

And this piece of idiocy appears to be what triggered the whole investigation.

I would, however, suspect that the PJ and others have actually been watching them for a while, and this business with the referee was a gift from God.

I am sure I recall something about Double Jeopardy not applying in Portugal if new evidence is found. There may well be enough evidence now to charge Cristovao with torture again, and this time prove it, as Leonor Cipriano being unable to identify the thugs due to the cowards having put a bag over her head would not be relevant.
