It is expected to arrive on theDouroduring the first week of September, and is hoped to be in full use by the end of the year, “to satisfy the curiosity of all those who wish to see it”, the company said in a statement.
British Ambassador toPortugal, Jill Gallard, told The Portugal News: “I am delighted to hear that the Royal Barge used in the Queen’s Jubilee flotilla will be finding a long-term home inPortugal. This will be a great reminder of a very special year for theUKand is yet another example of the closeness between our two countries and our dynamic and growing trade links, including tourism.”

I hadn't realised it was quite so well-appointed - or that it was so sea-worthy.

I think it is a river boat and will be used on the trips up the Douro from Porto towards the East and the border with Spain.

I do wonder if the purchasers realise that the boat was completely stripped of all its regalia and now looks like a normal boat. Or have they made another London/Tower bridge kind of purchase?

I didn't realise it was all fitted out inside, I wouldn't mind a little cruise on it myself.

Oh my, it's absolutely stunning! Now that is my idea of a holiday - pity about the champagne tastes and beer income.....

Having watched Rick Stein in Basque country I have been thinking of a trip to that part of Spain. Maybe it will be possible to combine the two areas in one holiday. I am thinking along those lines for next year now.
