A judge has warned an anonymous Twitterer he faces jail unless he stops an abusive online campaign against tour company Thomas Cook.
The unique order has been made against @TCXrated which has compared workers to 'dung beetles pushing **** around' and the 'living dead'.
Thomas Cook believes the culprit may be a disgruntled employee after the account revealed a confidential internal memo and trade information, the Daily Telegraph reported.
In London's High Court, Mr Justice Singh granted an injunction via Twitter in which @TCXrated could be jailed if he doesn't reveal his name and address and refuses to end his attacks on the company.
A lawyer for Thomas Cook told the court the account posted a 'a number of unsavoury posts' claiming it was a breach of confidence and the firm's employment contract.
@TCXrated pictured the internal memo which urged staff to stop criticising the company on networking sites
In response, reports the Telegraph, the troll wrote: 'If Thomas Cook wants people to stop slagging them on Twitter etc, then maybe they should start giving a decent service.'
A graph showing the falling price of the company's shares had the comment 'oh dear..'
Matthew Richardson, for Thomas Cook, told the judge: 'The nature of the posts gives us reason to suspect that @TCXrated is an employee.
'@TCXrated is anonymous and has sought to remain so. It is submitted that the court should in infer that this is a deliberate and unreasonable attempt to avoid having to answer for the action of operating the Twitter account.
'The damage is ongoing and continues to damage Thomas Cook's goodwill and reveal confidential commercial material,' the barrister said.
Mr Justice Singh is quoted by the Telegraph: 'If you disobey this order you may be held in contempt of court, and may be fined, imprisoned or have your assets seized.'
