British toddler returned to parents
Updated: 28-Sep-2012

A British toddler who was taken into care early this month after being found alone in a street in Carcavelos, near Lisbon, has been returned to her parents.

On September 3, the two-year-old child was found, alone and crying, in a pushchair by a passer-by, who alerted the authorities. The parents, a 40-year old man and a 38-year-old woman, were sat on an esplanade 100 metres away, “so drunk they were unable to say their child’s name correctly”, said the police.

The little girl remained in the Casa do Abrigo home until last week when the Cascais Family Court ruled that the child be returned to the parents.

The parents, witnesses, police authorities and the directors of Casa do Abrigo were all heard by the court.

My my. So, it went to a court, did it? Looks like the court didn't believe 'the police'.

Foreign tourists mistreat baby daughter in Albufeira

A baby of 14 months was removed to Irish parents by the Juvenile Court after allegations of mistreatment at the Hotel Paraiso de Albufeira.

According to the Morning Post, the abuse happened on Sunday night. Witnesses said the baby was sedated and thrown to the pool. In another moment it was placed on a balcony on the eighth floor, where he was at risk of falling.

Employees and guests of that hotel unit eventually alert the GNR and the child, who had several bruises, was taken to hospital in Faro, where remains hospitalized.

Malicious couple, resident in Northern Ireland, have shown signs of intoxication.

I think I'll wait till we know more about this incident before saying anything, Max. It wouldn't be the first time UK/Eire holidaymakers have been on the receiving end of tall tales and inventions from the Portuguese media.

It may be true, it may not.

British toddler returned to parents Empty Re: British toddler returned to parents

Post  bb1 Wed May 21, 2014 2:41 pm

Looks like it WASN'T true.

http://www.theportugalnews.com/news/british-baby-released-from-hospital-and-will-be-going-home/31631

Police were called to the four-star Paraíso hotel in the popular tourist resort of Albufeira in the Algarve at around 8.30pm on Sunday following complaints from concerned members of the public.
Worried witnesses claim the couple, believed to be from Belfast, Northern Ireland, was visibly drunk and the mother was “bumping into walls and falling over with the baby in her arms” on an eighth floor balcony.
There have also been claims that the baby was thrown into the swimming pool.
The baby was taken into protective care and admitted that night to a public hospital in the nearby city of Faro.
A spokesperson for Faro Hospital told The Portugal News this afternoon (21 May) that the child has been released from hospital and is thought to have been handed back to her parents.
If this is true the family is expected to fly back to Belfast later today (21 May) or tomorrow as the couple is under no legal obligation to remain in Portugal.
A court for Family and Minors in Portimão reviewed the case yesterday and passed it on to a local Child and Youth Protection Committee from Albufeira, it was confirmed last night (20 May).
Portugal’s Public Prosecutor’s office explained: “The prosecutor of the Family and Minors Court in Portimão was informed of a possible dangerous situation experienced by a [British] child who is in Portugal with the parents.
“The prosecutor informed the Committee of Child and Youth Protection [in Albufeira] of the situation, the entity that has the power to monitor the situation of the child, once parental consent is obtained.”
The office stressed: “Under the Law of Protection of Children and Young People in Danger, judicial intervention is ancillary to any of the protection committees, taking place only in cases in which the consent of parents or legal guardians is not obtained.”

The couple, who remain unnamed, were, according to newspaper Público, heard yesterday by the committee and reportedly agreed to be monitored by British social services.
Despite early reports in the national press that the girl’s parents are Irish, The Portugal News learned that they are British citizens believed to be from Northern Ireland.
In a statement sent to The Portugal News the British Embassy in Lisbon confirmed: "We are aware of an incident involving a British couple and we are providing consular assistance."
It seems no further action will be taken in Portugal against the parents, who have been seen visiting their daughter at the hospital.
This morning Drª Margarida Lima, president of the Albufeira Child and Youth Protection Committee confirmed that “the child will return to its country of origin with the parents.”
She said the Committee’s British counterpart has been informed of the ongoings.
Dr. Luís Villas Boas, director of the Refúgio Aboim Ascenção children’s home in Faro which in the past has temporarily sheltered foreign children removed from their parents in similar cases, questions why "no international laws are in place to regulate this type of situation."
The Refúgio cared for baby Charles, a three-month-old boy abandoned in January 2002 by his British parents near Faro Airport, and also took in the three British children whose parents are said to have passed out due to excessive drinking in a hotel in Vilamoura in May 2008.
More recently, in September 2012, a two-year-old British girl made international headlines when she spent ten days in a home for endangered children just outside the Portuguese capital Lisbon after being removed from her parents by police acting on reports that the parents were drunk.
The couple, who lived and worked in Lisbon as language teachers, were accused of child neglect by Portuguese authorities.

Every single one of these allegations from Portugal has been proven to be without substance on closer examination.

One would be forgiven for thinking that certain elements were deliberately targettiing British holidaymakers.

As we suspected, the whole story was another pack of lies from Portugal:

'Portuguese police took our girl into care because of the "Maddie effect"': British couple reveal how their baby was seized by armed officers during package holiday
James Moreland and Lee-Ann O'Donoghue 'handcuffed by armed police'
Accused of throwing 14-month-old daughter into pool on their first holiday
Couple claim allegations are unfounded, and say Mr Moreland was beaten
Police told them heavy-handed response was due to 'Madeleine Effect

They also claim Mr Moreland, 29, was beaten by police and £500 – all of their holiday spending money – was stolen during the assault.

That won't surprise anyone, and neither will this:

Their ordeal began on Sunday afternoon when they joined friends at a bar in Albufeira. Miss O’Donoghue said: ‘I had three cocktails and was merry, not drunk by any stretch.’ At 8pm, after they returned to the hotel, police knocked on the door.
‘They said they wanted to check on the baby,’ said Miss O’Donoghue. ‘My daughter was crying because she is teething so I gave her some Calpol (a brand of paracetamol for children).
‘The police saw the bottle and said that it was an “illegal drug in Portugal” and they were taking her to hospital for tests to see if we had sedated her. They were very brusque and had guns.’

Sounds like they trained at the Gonzo school of thuggery and stupidity. Who knew paracetamol is illegal in Portugal?  Rolling Eyes

I wish the assorted haters, hounders, numties and forkers would organise a cheapo holiday for themselves on the Algarve. They all have issues and detest each other, so they're bound to get into trouble with the local police.

Then they could enjoy thrilling 'accidents' on police station stairs for themselves. And no, I wouldn't care. I would LMAO.

An excellent point here:

Portugal -Taking the P!!

Quote:

Perhaps they should direct their focus on catching the man who abused those children rather than targeting parents for being British and using children's medicines which are legal in Portugal. It makes you wonder exactly how many people were scared off pressuring the Portuguese police about attacks on their children since they make it very clear they have no problem making things up to scare parents into thinking their children will be removed from them.

Someone's committed heresy on a numty page:

Murray Boyle We were beaten up and robbed in Portugal several years ago, the Portuguese police wanted money before they would even give us a crime reference number, which we couldn't do due to bank cards and cash being stolen so they refused, corrupt horrible bastards

Sounds about right; we all saw how deep-rooted the corruption in certain parts of Portugal is in the case of Ellie, the Irish child.

Anyone else think these parents were targeted in revenge?

Yep.

And what's with their room being at the back of the hotel where no one can have seen her staggering about on the balcony?

And you all know that the son of one of my friends was beaten up by the Police after being beaten up and robbed by a local.

Brits really should take their tourist money elsewhere for their own safety and sanity. If Portugal doesn't like this, then it is up to them to find the correct solution.

Any lingering doubts that the whole thing was caused by bad elements in Portugal out for payback has now gone.

According to the ex-pat forkers, the hotel manager turned up on Portuguese telly to further embroider and re-enforce the police version, and smear the holidaymakers.

God forbid the Algarve police should be shown YET AGAIN to be incompetent thugs! Got to keep those £££££££££s coming in!

IMO, it's time the Foreign Office started warning British families to avoid Portugal and find somewhere less corrupt, and safer.

Syria has some lovely beaches, for instance.

According to a pervnumty:

Ângelo Do Carmo everyone should be happy because police intervene and everything ended up well for the child. this is standard procedure. it happened to a british couple but it would be the same with a portuguese, spanish, german or whatever nationality.

Oh, so in Portugal it's normal to sieze the children of holidaymakers at gunpoint, forcibly remove the child to hospital and inflict unneccessary, invasive 'tests' on the child WITHOUT parental consent?

Pausing only to accuse the parents of drugging the child because they're too pig-ignorant to know that Calpol is only paracetamol?

And beating up and robbing the child's father because he dares to object?

And then the hotel manager goes on Portuguese TV to further smear the family?

Everyone should be happy? No, no-one should - unless they like living in police states.

This is the third or fourth time this has happened, and it's glaringly obvious who is doing the lying every single time. It never happens in Spain, which is far more popular with British families, only in Portugal.

Looks like Portugal is never going to throw off its fascist past, and British families should seriously think about crossing it off their holiday lists. Especially as British holidaymakers are always blamed for getting themselves killed by Portuguese muggers.
