Re: Ex-PJ Inspector disciplined for 'lies' in Rui Pedro case
Remember this from last year?
Inspector who investigated the case Rui Pedro is the subject of disciplinary proceedings
March 6, 2012
The Judicial Police (PJ) has opened disciplinary proceedings against one of the first brigade inspectors who investigated the disappearance of Rui Pedro, in Lousada in March 1998, told the Lusa police source.
The same source, on the basis of the disciplinary proceedings are statements made by the inspector at the hearing in trial of the case Rui Pedro, who publicly admitted to lying about some details of the case.
The news that João Rouxinol was the subject of disciplinary proceedings was released Monday by TVI, which states that the former inspector, in an interview, said the family of Rui Pedro hid his epilepsy and that only revealed to the PJ in 2005, and later admitted he had lied because he felt angry with the criticisms of the research
João Rouxinol testified at the trial of the case Rui Pedro as a defense witness, having admitted, when confronted by Ricardo Sá Fernandes, lawyer for the family of the missing youth, he lied, while being interviewed by a newspaper on the detail in question.
Also the family's lawyer admits process the inspector, and the Portuguese state, errors in the investigation.
However, the trucker Afonso Dias, the sole defendant's trial, was acquitted on 22 February of the crime of kidnapping by the court of Pedro Rui Lousada.
Lusa / SOL
admitted he had lied because he felt angry with the criticisms of the research
Honour offended, was it? It all sounds very familiar...

@JohnnyWatergate How can I link to files that are withheld? Do you honestly believe Portuguese would shelve case if child was alive
Of course they would. Look at what they did to Rui Pedro and his family.

More news about the case.
http://www.cmjornal.xl.pt/detalhe/noticias/nacional/portugal/raptor-de-rui-pedro-condenado-a-prisao-efetiva
Raptor Rui Pedro sentenced to prison effective
Afonso Dias was sentenced on Monday by the Court of Appeal of Porto, to three years in prison for kidnapping effective Rui Pedro - the day that is 15 years since the disappearance of this young Lousada.
It will be recalled that the Court of Lousada the defendant was acquitted on the grounds that there was insufficient evidence, but the family of Rui Pedro, as prosecutors appealed that decision.
Given this decision, the lawyer Afonso Dias, Paulo Gomes, admits appeal to the Supreme Court. "The process has never been easier for us and will continue to beat us to prove that Afonso had nothing to do with it," he said.
The lawyer for the family said Rui Pedro was pleased because, after 15 years, "justice was done".
"The judgment has changed given the facts as proven by the first instance and came to recognize that that kid that was with Alcina Dias that afternoon was the Rui Pedro and who led him there was Afonso Dias", said Ricardo Sá Fernandes.
"It's a very important day for us all, but is rather a very important day for Rui Pedro. He may be alive and we'll continue to look for him. If not alive, his memory deserves to continue seeking knowledge what happened to him, "concluded the lawyer.
===========
That was another odd one. Readers may recall the judge caused uproar by throwing out the case because, of all things, the colour of the accused's eyes. Which led to near-riots in the streets.

Afonso Dias "in shock" and "disbelief" with conviction in the case Rui Pedro
My friends, this was taken from Jornal Notícias newspaper:
http://www.jn.pt/PaginaInicial/Seguranca/Interior.aspx?content_id=3087895&page=-1
Afonso Dias "in shock" and "disbelief" to the conviction in the case Rui Pedro
The defendant's case of Rui Pedro, Afonso Dias, was "in shock" and said he "did not believe" have been sentenced to three years and six months imprisonment by the Court of Appeal of Oporto.
The defendant's lawyer, Paulo Gomes, said that Afonso Dias, professional trucker, is "out of the country, traveling and working."
The lawyer said his client "was in shock, of course," saying it was "not possible".
"For him, it's absolute nonsense," said Paulo Gomes.
Paulo Gomes says that the court based its decision on testimony given by a prostitute, Alcina Dias, who has been with Rui Pedro, on the day that the then less than 11 years disappeared, March 4, 1998.
For the lawyer, however, this witness has no credibility. "If the evidence used to convict this lady Afonso Dias, in Portugal there is no process to solve." "It's a shame.'s Amazing," Paulo Gomes considered.
Soon after knowing the decision of Oporto, the lawyer said he would appeal to the Supreme Court, to try to "prove that Afonso Dias has nothing to do with it."
Paulo Gomes claimed that "the lower court decision was the right decision."
Recall that in the first trial, the court acquitted the accused Lousada for lack of evidence.
Rui Pedro's family and prosecutors failed to comply with this decision and appealed to the Court of Appeal of Porto.
Asked if Afonso Dias can break the silence maintained during his trial, Paulo Gomes said he "talked three or four times in the process."

I hadn't realised he wasn't even in the country when he was convicted. Now, I don't really understand, from what I have read, why the first hearing was stopped, but....what on earth?
I strongly suspect he was correctly charged, but what a bizarre way to run a court system!

Re: Ex-PJ Inspector disciplined for 'lies' in Rui Pedro case
Another incredible court ruling, Sabot. Sentenced for child abduction without his knowledge.
If he is innocent, he has been sentenced to jail for a crime he did not commit, and his life ruined while the real abductor/s go free.
If he is guilty, he has got a ridiculously light sentence for committing a heinous crime.
Either way, it bears no resemblance to justice.
Is it beyond Portugal to investigate high-profile cases PROPERLY, charge the right person with the right crime, and conduct a fair trial in line with the rest of democratic Europe in the 21st century? Instead of acting like the Zimbabwe of Europe?

The press never did get ages right...there was another boy went missing and his photo was apparently found on a paedo website ..rui pedro was his name I don't know if they ever found who took him but he is still missing..
Someone has already been convicted for the abduction of Rui Pedro. I suggest you keep up to date on these cases.
-----
And I suggest she starts telling the WHOLE truth about the Rui Pedro scandal. She seems to think everyone is as braindead and gullible as the McCann-haters.
A three year jail sentence in abstentia for child abduction? Does she think that's something to boast about?
Either an innocent man has been jailed or a child abductor has got a slap on the wrist. More insane Portuguese in-justice.
