Raptor Rui Pedro sentenced to prison effective
Afonso Dias was sentenced on Monday by the Court of Appeal of Porto, to three years in prison for kidnapping effective Rui Pedro - the day that is 15 years since the disappearance of this young Lousada.

Afonso Dias "in shock" and "disbelief" to the conviction in the case Rui Pedro

The defendant's case of Rui Pedro, Afonso Dias, was "in shock" and said he "did not believe" have been sentenced to three years and six months imprisonment by the Court of Appeal of Oporto.

The defendant's lawyer, Paulo Gomes, said that Afonso Dias, professional trucker, is "out of the country, traveling and working."

The lawyer said his client "was in shock, of course," saying it was "not possible".

"For him, it's absolute nonsense," said Paulo Gomes.

Paulo Gomes says that the court based its decision on testimony given by a prostitute, Alcina Dias, who has been with Rui Pedro, on the day that the then less than 11 years disappeared, March 4, 1998.

I strongly suspect he was correctly charged, but what a bizarre way to run a court system!

Another incredible court ruling, Sabot. Sentenced for child abduction without his knowledge.

If he is innocent, he has been sentenced to jail for a crime he did not commit, and his life ruined while the real abductor/s go free.

If he is guilty, he has got a ridiculously light sentence for committing a heinous crime.

Either way, it bears no resemblance to justice.

Is it beyond Portugal to investigate high-profile cases PROPERLY, charge the right person with the right crime, and conduct a fair trial in line with the rest of democratic Europe in the 21st century? Instead of acting like the Zimbabwe of Europe?

A three year jail sentence in abstentia for child abduction? Does she think that's something to boast about?
