An unnamed Portuguese man, 33, has been arrested at Gatwick Airport outside London on suspicion of having connections with a terrorist group.

The arrest was made last week, but the nationality of the man was only revealed on Tuesday.
In total, four men were arrested in the British capital as part of an inquiry into travel to Syria in support of alleged terrorist activity in that war-torn country.
Three arrests were made initially, all of whom were men aged 18, 22 and 31. The trio were held at separate residential addresses in east London.
This was followed by the 33-year-old Portuguese man’s arrest at Gatwick last Wednesday as he attempted to board a flight for Damascus.
The four men are currently being held at a south London police station as inquiries continue, the Independent said earlier this week.
Whitehall officials were reported as saying the arrested men are based in the UK and are not Syrian.
The Metropolitan Police said officers from its counter-terrorism command would question the men on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism, an offence under the Terrorism Act 2000.
Two other men have previously been charged in connection with an investigation into travel to Syria in support of alleged terrorist activity.
Jubayer Chowdhury, 24, together with Shajul Islam and others, are also charged with unlawfully and injuriously imprisoning John Cantlie and Jeroen Oerlemans, a Dutch national, against their will.

-----------

That's an odd story; the last thing Syria needs is outsiders stirring the pot, IMO.
