April Jones Murder: Bridger Trial Adjourned
The trial of the man said to be "probably responsible" for the death of April Jones is adjourned at the request of his defence.
The trial of former lifeguard Mark Bridger who is accused of the murder of schoolgirl April Jones has been adjourned
Bridger was due to go on trial today for the murder of the five-year-old from mid Wales but he has now been told he will be back in court on April 29.
Bridger, 47, was arrested the day after April vanished while playing on her bike near her home in Machynlleth, Wales, on October 1 last year.
A judge at Mold Crown Court agreed to the adjournment to allow Bridger's defence team to make "further inquiries".
The disappearance of April, who had cerebral palsy, sparked a massive outpouring of support for her family, with hundreds of people joining the search.
The girl's body has never been found despite a major operation led by Dyfed Powys Police.
Bridger, of Ceinws, is charged with abducting and murdering April, and of unlawfully disposing of and concealing her body with intent to pervert the course of justice.
He pleaded not guilty to the allegations on January 14 when his barrister Brendan Kelly QC told Mold Crown Court that Bridger is "probably responsible" for her death.
The trial, also at Mold, was expected to be occupied with legal matters early on. A jury was due to be selected today and it had been due to open later this week.
On the day she went missing, Mr and Mrs Jones had allowed April to play out late as a treat after she received a glowing report from school.
Bridger was arrested the following day.

April Jones Murder Trial: Bridger In Court
12:14pm UK, Monday 29 April 201
The trial of the former lifeguard accused of murdering schoolgirl April Jones is due to get under way.
Mark Bridger, 47, was arrested the day after five-year-old April vanished while playing on her bike near her home in Machynlleth, mid-Wales, last October.
Wearing a short-sleeved pale blue shirt, a blue striped tie and grey trousers, he appeared in the dock at Mold Crown Court flanked by two prison officers.
Trial judge Mr Justice Griffith Williams told 50 potential jurors: "I don't know whether you have been reading the papers or listening to the news but if you have, you have probably worked out by now that I am about to start the trial which arises out of the alleged murder of April Jones in Machynlleth last October.
"The defendant's name is Mark Bridger, he is obviously sitting in the dock. It may be as well that you have a look at him just to make sure he is not somebody who you know or who you think you know."
Hundreds joined the search for April, who suffered from cerebral palsy, following her disappearance.
Her body has never been found despite a major operation led by Dyfed Powys Police.
Bridger, of Ceinws, is charged with abducting and murdering April, and of unlawfully disposing of and concealing her body with intent to pervert the course of justice.
He has pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
Jury selection has been taking place, with the first day expected to be occupied with legal matters and the trial expected to open later this week.
There will be nearly 60 witnesses called throughout the trial, which is expected to last until the middle of June.

Re: April Jones: BRIDGER FOUND GUILTY
http://news.sky.com/story/1085021/april-jones-bridger-cant-remember-death
The man accused of murdering April Jones probably killed the five-year-old but cannot remember how, a court has heard.
The prosecution in the trial of Mark Bridger said he claims he ran over April before putting her body in his car.
But he says he cannot remember what happened next because of a combination of drink, adrenalin and panic.
The 47-year-old is on trial at Mold Crown Court accused of abducting and murdering the five-year-old, who disappeared from her home in North Wales on October 1 last year.
The court heard that the murder of the schoolgirl was "sexually motivated" and her killer "played a cruel game" as he tried to cover it up.
April vanished while playing on her bike near her home in Machynlleth and her body has never been found.
Opening the case for the prosecution, Elwen Evans QC told the jury that Bridger was seen putting April in his Land Rover.
She said: "It's the defendant's case that he admits that he drove her away. He admits that April is dead. He accepts that he killed her or probably killed her.
"He accepts that he must have got rid of her body."
But Miss Evans said Bridger has not told police where the body is.
She said: "He says to us that he does not know, that he cannot remember.
"The prosecution case is this: That Mark Bridger abducted April. That he murdered her and that he went to enormous lengths to try to cover up what he had done.
"It's our case that the defendant's actions - abduction, murder, covering up what he has done - that his actions were sexually motivated."
Miss Evans added: "He has played, we say, a cruel game in pretending not to know what he has done to her.
"It's a game to try and save himself and try to manipulate his way out of his full responsibility in what he has done."
Bridger, wearing a light blue short-sleeved shirt and striped tie, sat staring ahead as he listened to the evidence.
A large snake tattoo could be seen on his left forearm and he wore headphones to help him hear the proceedings.
The disappearance of April, who had cerebral palsy, sparked a massive outpouring of support for her family, with hundreds of people joining the search.
Bridger, of Ceinws, denies abducting and murdering April, and unlawfully disposing of and concealing her body with intent to pervert the course of justice.

A fuller report, which contains distressing material:

April Jones's 'blood found' at Mark Bridger's home
The blood of missing April Jones and bone fragments were found at the home of a man accused of her murder, a trial at Mold Crown Court has heard.
Mark Bridger, 47, from Ceinws, Machynlleth, Powys, denies abducting and murdering April, and intending to pervert the course of justice.
Prosecutor Elwen Evans QC said blood found at his home matched April's DNA.
Five-year-old April went missing near her home in Machynlleth on 1 October 2012.
Ms Evans said said the defendant had gone to enormous lengths to conceal what he had done, adding: "He has played a cruel game in pretending not to know what he has done to her and with her. It is a game to try and save himself."
The court heard Mr Bridger's computer contained images of child sex abuse as well as photographs of local children. His computer records also showed he had an interest in child murder cases.
The jury were warned they would have to view some images.
Search terms Mr Bridger used on his computer included "naked young five year old girls" and "nudism five-year-old".
He had images of the Soham murder victims Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman on his computer, the court heard.
On the day April was abducted, he viewed a pornographic cartoon apparently depicting rape.
Blood evidence
The jury heard Mr Bridger undertook an "extensive clean-up operation" at his home which included the disposal of April's body and her clothes.
However, some evidence remained. Blood found in the living room, hallway and bathroom matched April's DNA.
Ms Evans told the court that bone fragments found in fire ashes at his home were consistent with bone fragments from a juvenile human skull, according to experts.
A concentration of blood was found near the wood burner at Bridger's home. Around the wood burner were a number of knives, one of which was badly burned.
'No recollection'
The prosecution said Mr Bridger claimed he was involved in a road traffic accident with April, then put her in a car to get her medical attention "although he did not in fact approach anyone for help".
He claimed he drove around Machynlleth, an account which prosecution said was undermined by evidence, including CCTV.
He said there came a time when he was driving around when he had no recollection of what happened.
He also said he was too drunk to remember but he believed he put her somewhere out of the rain.
He denied taking her to his home said he did not sexually abuse her.
Ms Evans said: "On the 1st of October last year April Jones, happy and smiling, was seen getting into the defendant's Land Rover vehicle.
"He drove her away and that was the last that anyone apart from the defendant saw of April.
She added: "The largest search in British policing history has failed to find her."
The court heard April's best friend saw her talking to Mr Bridger on the day she went missing and witnessed her getting into his car.
Mr Bridger remained staring straight ahead throughout evidence.
Prosecution said the evidence was "all too relevant" and may help provide a "key to understanding what he did and why he did what he did".
Earlier, Mr Bridger wearing grey trousers, a short-sleeved blue shirt and tie and flanked by two prison guards, stood and listened as each jury member swore their oath.
The prosecution's opening speech is expected to continue into Wednesday.
The jury will to go to Machynlleth on Thursday to visit various sites.
April's parents Coral and Paul Jones were seated in the front row of the public gallery throughout the morning's proceedings, which included legal argument and jury selection.
Both were wearing pink ribbons, which became the symbol of the search for their missing daughter following her disappearance.
The trial adjourned for lunch at 13:00 BST.
The trial could last until the middle of June.

I don't think anyone expected to be hearing this, Lily.
And the hounders are, not surprisingly, being beyond foul - as well as ignoring the fact that NO-ONE IS ALLOWED TO MAKE PUBLIC COMMENT IN THE COURSE OF UK COURT CASES.
One of these days, morons like them are going to wreck a high-profile trial.

Re: April Jones: BRIDGER FOUND GUILTY
Xcuse me. If April was seen getting into his car, how did he manage to run over her accidentally at a later time? Or was she trying to run away from him?
I don't think he ran over her at the time he picked her up because he was seen picking her up. And she was seen getting into his car.
Do you know, I cannot for the life of me remember who I ran over yesterday, or what I did with the body afterwards.

This is the real horror story, Bonny. I would be gone by now if I were them. And don't imagine that I haven't thought of what might have happened to one of my children under similar circumstances. We must all do this at some point, simply because it does happen.
Would I be there? I somewhat doubt it. But please don't see this as a critisism. They must deal with this in whatever way is best for them.

He can't possibly have accidentally run her over, unless she was trying to run away from him later.
She was seen getting into his car voluntarily. Shit, and all that blood, including his on his sofa. It hardly bears thinking of.

There isn't much said there, so far. Beyond the fact that the child's blood was all over his living room, his bathroom, and his washing machine.
The only other thing I can think of to ask is, how does he remember running her over accidentally if he doesn't remember how her bones got into his fire.
Sorry, being morbid. I don't think that the world is full of child killing paedophiles.
