The "excessive force" by police against protesters and Gypsies in Portugal is noted in the report of Amnesty International (AI) released this Tuesday, which said that domestic violence remains a "serious concern."
The organization's annual report of human rights, with 2012 data, lists some cases, including the manifestation held in Lisbon on March 22, the day of the general strike, and promoted by Platform 15 October.
The police have used "excessive force against peaceful protesters," said Amnesty International, adding that "two journalists received medical treatment after allegedly being beaten by police."
The photojournalist José Goulão agency Lusa, and Patricia Melo Moreira, AFP, they were covering the police charge on protesters in the Chiado when they were assaulted.
Amnesty also notes the police charge the protesters on November 14, by the National Assembly, adding that the media have reported 48 wounded.
Also indicates that some of the detainees (held nine people were identified and 21) were not informed of the reasons for arrest and had no access to a lawyer in a timely manner.
The third case occurred in September pointed in Vila Verde, a search for the arrest of a man in a gypsy camp. "At least nine Roma, including children, were reportedly beaten and abused physically and verbally by about 30 policemen, at least three had to receive medical treatment," the report needs.
In relation to domestic violence, Amnesty International notes that the Portuguese Association for Victim Support and the Ombudsman reported on an increase in complaints of the elderly and that the first realizes 16,970 victims in 2012, against 15,724 in 2011.
The international organization based in London also mentions data UMAR-Union Women and Alternative Response to the existence of 36 deaths due to domestic violence until September 2012, when the previous year the number had risen to 27.

Re: AMNESTY CRITICISES PORTUGUESE POLICE USE OF FORCE
Oh, and what's this?
In relation to domestic violence, Amnesty International notes that the Portuguese Association for Victim Support and the Ombudsman reported on an increase in complaints of the elderly and that the first realizes 16,970 victims in 2012, against 15,724 in 2011.
I thought it was unthinkable that the elderly should be victims of violence in Portugal?
I must also have imagined today's report on the death of an elderly woman in the course of a home invasion:

The 83 year old died as a result of this. She:
was attacked with a rag with ether
