Police invade steps of Parliament
Protest police get to the top of the steps of Parliament. (Updated 21:00)

The elements of the forces and security services concentrated opposite the parliament in Lisbon , has succeeded in pressuring the police barricade and climb the steps of Parliament .
The vice - president of the Association of Professional Police , Manuel Morais , told Lusa that the protest will be "the greatest of all time ." Can't afford to feed their children? Dare I suggest that this is a bit over the top? Most of them that I have seen aren't exactly thin themselves.

I suspect the honest police officers have a case, Sabot, they are being badly hit by Portugal's 'austerity' measures, which naturally don't seem to apply to politicians.

National Director of PSP resigns after manifestation of the police

The National Director of PSP , Superintendent Paulo Gomes Valente , put his seat available , following the events of Thursday in front of the National Assembly, and the request was accepted by the Minister of Internal Affairs .

A statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the Minister Miguel Macedo " understand the readiness to accept the termination of service that has had as director " of the PSP .

Thousands of profissionaiss and police forces and security services - PSP , GNR , SEF , ASAE , marine police , prison guards , municipal police and PJ - demonstrated, on Thursday in Lisbon and then after pull down a police barrier , managed to reach the main entrance of Parliament , where they sang the national anthem , after having voluntarily demobilized .

The same note states that , now the Minister of Internal Affairs will " start the process with a view to the appointment of the new National Director of Public Security Police " .

Superintendent Paul Gomes Valente assumed the position of National Director of PSP in February 2012 , having been the first official college of police to get to the top of the hierarchy in the corporation .
