Ohio Kidnapper Castro Faces 329 Charges

I have just watched the sentencing of Ariel Castro on CNN, Life without parole + 1,000 years.  He gave a statement where he claimed:
- he was assaulted as a child
- his wife attacked him so he beat her up, broke her nose twice etc
- he admits to being sick with a sex obsession
- there was no rape, the girls weren't virgins and they begged for sex
- the house was full of harmony
- he is a victim
- he isn't a  monster .... and on and on ....

He also argued with the judge, didn't get far with that (why is that familiar?)  The look on the faces of his defence team were a dead give away they were obviously totally gobsmacked at what he was saying.  The judge denied him access to his daughter as she is also a victim;  LL

Poetic justice - he's going to be locked up till the day he dies.

They've stripped of his house and all other properties/land, and slapped him with a $100,000 fine and he is to pay all the court costs. He tried hard to convince the court he was sexually insane, but the judge wasn't having that, as Castro had been examined for insanity etc and found to be perfectly sane. LL

I agree. He is not mad, the judge called him narcissistic and a serious sexual predator. His own son said he was violent and a bully especially towards women. I watched his face while one of the girls was giving her verbal statement to the judge and her showed no emotion, no remorse, just blankness. He 'apologised' to the girls, their families and the State of Ohio, but with no emotion. He is totally amoral, ie lacking moral sensibility; not caring about right and wrong. I found him very creepy. The former school bus driver was jailed for life last month for holding three women captive for a decade in his Ohio house.



Ariel Castro, the Cleveland man who held three women captive for a decade, has died after apparently hanging himself inside his prison cell.

The 53-year-old was found hanging in his cell at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient, Ohio, at 9.20pm on Tuesday, prison officials said.

Prison medical staff performed CPR on him before he was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead 90 minutes later.

JoEllen Smith, a spokeswoman for the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, said Castro was being held in protective custody because of the notoriety of the case.

This meant he was checked every 30 minutes, but he was not on suicide watch.

Oh dear, what a shame. Never mind.

I wonder if it was truly suicide, or someone inside the jail killed him.

I know that the authopsy refers suicide, but, due to the word "apparently", that thought came to my mind.

It said he was held in protective custody, Pedro. I think that means solitary confinement?

Guess he didn't like being locked in a cell....I know I shouldn't, but I do hope a Bubba caught him in the showers. That really would be poetic justice.

I'm afraid so, Lily, as it didn't bother him all the time he had those women - and the child - locked in his basement...

lily, I understand your words, but, even in solitary confinement, someone had the key from the cell.

either way, it doesn't matter, no big loss.

Pity about that. Far too easy. How many more of his kind are there out there in a built up neighbourhood?
