Two officers save baby from fatal choking
Child of 18 months swallowed two candies, which ended up stuck in the throat
The mother looked other way for a moment of her baby of 18 months, while making a payment in a fuel station in Lisbon. It was enough for the boy t swallow two candies, which were stuck in the throat. The boy quickly began to choke, his face purple, before the panic of the mother. Luckily, two police agents in civilian notice it and saved the baby from certain death - applying a Heimlich maneuver (compression in the abdomen). The child spit the candy and started breathing again.
It was late on Monday of last week, the 22th, it happened in Galp petrol station of Avenida Padre Cruz. Two agents of the Criminal Investigation Division of the PSP Lisbon were in place when they realized the apparatus inside the pump. In a panic, the mother holding the baby, now with purple face, not knowing what to do, while desperate officials linked to 112.
Quickly, one of the policemen took the baby from the mother's lap, while the other was left with the task of calm the mother. One of the officers took the boy on his back and pressed the chest several times with his hands. With the pressure, the candies left the child's throat. As a precaution, the boy was taken to hospital to be assisted.
