Last night’s BBC Crimewatch appeal for Madeleine McCann had its highest-ever ratings, police said today.
The hour-long programme had an average of 6.7 million viewers, the biggest in its 11-year history.
Metropolitan police received more than 1,000 calls and emails from the public after the programme about the events leading up to and surrounding Madeleine's abduction in Portugal on May 3, 2007.
In last night's appeal police suggested that Madeleine's disappearance could have been a "pre-planned abduction".
