Three elite officers from the British investigative police, Scotland Yard, arrived discreetly in Lisbon earlier last month. And they followed immediately to a meeting that was scheduled at the Judiciary Police [PJ] headquarters - in order to "tune up the cooperation mechanisms" in the analyses of new leads in the Maddie case, this was confirmed to Correio da Manhã by Pedro do Carmo [pictured above], the National joint director of the PJ.

The news was advanced yesterday by SkyNews after this team, from the Scotland Yard, was created in May by the direct order of Prime Minister David Cameron; following an appeal made to him by Kate and Gerry McCann, parents of the young girl who disappeared in Praia da Luz, Lagos, on the night of May 3, 2007. The aim of the English investigators, who returned to London the following day is to comb thoroughly all the information and leads that were followed in the process - so they can suggest new steps to be taken to the PJ if appropriate.

The process is formally archived, "but it is the interest of PJ and of the Scotland Yard that we can, one day, get to the truth of the facts" of what happened in Praia da Luz, Pedro do Carmo adds. The head of the PJ, who chaired the meeting, advanced that it was a "constructive" meeting - ​​that united the British and elements of the PJ from Portimão, where the investigation unfolded.

It continues to arrive to the Portuguese and British police dozens of information, anonymous or not, about what could have happened to the English girl, with four years of age then, inside the apartment 5A of the Ocean Club. The majority concern the sightings in various places around the world, which have revealed themselves to be unfounded; others are more credible and have to be checked. Some point to kidnapping; others to the involvement of adults close to the child.

The imposition of the British Prime-Minister to the Scotland Yard, in May, at the time of the book launch, ‘Madeleine’, in the United Kingdom, which coincided with the eight birthday of the missing child's disappearance, caused controversy in England. It was seen by some as a populist measure, of a politician that gave a differential treatment to the McCann couple - who had characterized Cameron as a "devout father and family man", asking him for a "independent review and transparent of the process". The Prime-Minister replied assuring them that he would commit the Scotland Yard to the case.

Gonçalo Amaral – The English can always present the conclusions to which they themselves arrived in 2007. Because they know, they have the evidence of what happened - they don't need to investigate anything. All this is now a mere ‘show off’.

– How can these meetings be justified now?

– Only in terms of the political image of the English Prime-Minister. They are not coming here certainly to ask to consult a process, that they, from the first hour, have in England and fully translated in English...

– Is this another media maneuver from the McCanns?

– I don't know, however, if the Scotland Yard is investigating and if they no longer pay their detectives, they can return the money from the book.

Secondly - THREE? What happened to Brunty's thirty, then?

Finally - Gonc has done himself no favors with those snide remarks; the UK police did NOT agree with his conclusions. In fact, they were horrified by the rubbish he was spouting.

And Cameron is doing this to improve his image, is he?

So, how does that work, when according to Team Gonc, it is a copper-bottom certainty that the McCanns DONE IT and the UK police agree with him?

In what alternate universe will that improve Cameron's image? Isn't it more likely to be the final nail in Cameron's coffin?

And he couldn't even let one interview pass without snide remarks about the McCanns.

Wonder what's up with him - besides he has been left on the sidelines, where he should have been from Day One.

Unlike Gonc, I expect Scotland Yard actually understand DNA, and the whole business of there only being 15 markers out of 37 in the car.

Far from people being arrested in the UK for less, any suspect is likely to be cleared with a police apology with a result like that.

Scotland Yard are fully aware that there is no evidence that Madeleine McCann was not alive when she was taken from 5a; there is not a scrap of evidence she was ever anywhere near the car.

If Gonc had been a bit more professional, he would have saved himself a lot of trouble.

He would have saved the McCanns a lot of needless hassle.

But far more important than that - he would have increased the chances of Madeleine being found enormously.

Instead, he started a vendetta against her parents, which he is continuing to this day.

It's unforgiveable.

Really? Because there is nothing about that 'theory' in the police files. Sounds like more propaganda from Team Gonc to me.

Sour Grapes, if you ask me. Gonc said he wanted the case reopened, which is what a Review might well accomplish. He even offered his services as an Assistant to the Process.

So Scotland Yard have sent officers to Portugal, and nobody asked Gonc for his opinion, because they know he is a Liar and a Perjurer who countenances extracting "Confessions" by beating up witnesses. In fact he is now an Arguido in the case of him personally beating up another witness.
Who on earth would want his input? Least of all The PJ, I do suspect.

Just as a matter of interest, was Leonor Cipriano made an Arguida before of after she was tortured? I sense that there is something not quite right legally here, but I haven't worked out what, yet

Maybe you dont understand that the McCanns are members of a sinister, totally secret organisation allegedly called The Masons, about whom nothing whatever is known. And wield such immense power that even the prime minister is in their thrall.

Whilst Dr Amaral is a hard drinking working ex cop who has had his drinking career ruined by the evil pair.

But be assured that Amaral and the PJ are terribly clever, and are playing a long game. The clock is turning, the tide is ticking and it is only a matter of time.

Ah yes! That will be why assorted interlectool pitchforkers are spinning like whirlygigs this morning, trying - and failing - to stand logic on its head.

All of them are making a very basic error.

They are failing to factor in that the McCanns have no more idea what happened to Madeleine than anyone bar the abductor.

If they could force themselves to rethink their 'theories' factoring in the McCanns' innocence, they would find it all makes perfect sense.

They would also realise why they are regarded as nutjobs and haters.

A NEW investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann was under way last night after senior Scotland Yard detectives flew to Portugal.
Officers from a 30-strong squad specially set up to revive the search for Madeleine McCann, who vanished four years ago, met Portuguese authorities for the first time.
The top secret talks took place last month but details emerged for the first time yesterday.
Last night Madeleine’s devoted parents Kate and Gerry told how the development gave them fresh hope of a breakthrough in the hunt for their daughter. Heart specialist Gerry, 42, and former GP Kate, 43, were said to be “extremely pleased” the meeting had taken place.
It is the first time any international police force has been searching for Madeleine since the official Portuguese inquiry was shelved in July 2008. The couple’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell said Kate and Gerry believed it was “a positive step in the right direction”.
Madeleine disappeared during a family holiday in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007.
Scotland Yard confirmed its officers conducted their first face-to-face “formal meeting” with Portuguese police who led the hunt for her.
The McCanns, of Rothley, Leicestershire, believe vital clues were missed and leads never followed up during the shambolic investigation.
The despairing couple were left to search for Madeleine by themselves and hired a team of private eyes.
They insisted they would never stop looking for Madeleine, who vanished days before her fourth birthday, and were given a huge boost when David Cameron stepped in to help following a personal appeal in May.

Mr Cameron told the couple Home Secretary Theresa May had ordered Scotland Yard to launch a new operation funded by the Government. They were tasked to carry out a review of the investigation from start to finish and bring a new perspective to the case.
Yesterday it was revealed the Yard team carrying out the new inquiry consists of 30 officers, the same size as a murder squad.
It is being led by Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood, of the Met’s Homicide and Serious Crime Command, who has been dubbed Britain’s top cold case detective. The McCanns hope the renewed efforts could unearth a vital new clue in the four-year mystery.
Mr Mitchell said: “Kate and Gerry are extremely pleased that the review is progressing. It is a positive step in the right direction.”
The Portuguese detectives’ investigation, helped by officers from Leicestershire Police, led to hundreds of possible sightings of Madeleine across the world but so far all have come to nothing. A Scotland Yard spokesman said last night: “Officers from the Metropolitan Police travelled to Portugal at the beginning of August and had their first formal meeting with Portuguese authorities to discuss ways to progress the investigative review.”
The McCanns met members of the London-based squad several times before the Portuguese meeting. A source close to the couple said: “They are relieved. Things are finally being done and Kate and Gerry are being kept informed of every move.” The couple, who have six-year-old twins Sean and Amelie, are convinced it is only a matter of time before they get a significant breakthrough.

Their private investigators, headed by former Detective Inspector David Edgar, have also met the new team.
The family source said: “Kate and Gerry have had several meetings with police reviewing their daughter’s case. They know the officers have a difficult task ahead but they feel positive. They have been told that if something has been missed they will find it. They are relieved that something is finally happening.
“Kate and Gerry believe potentially vital clues were missed in the botched Portuguese investigation and their private eyes are hoping the Met will bring a new perspective to the case, which is being conducted in tandem with Portuguese police. The review is still in its very early stages. Officers are busy going through everything from scratch and analysing it.”
When the review was announced, Sir Paul Stephenson, the then Metropolitan Police Commissioner, insisted there was “always a chance” it could lead to Madeleine being safely reunited with her parents.
The review team has drawn expertise from Scotland Yard’s specialist crime directorate.
More officers will be drafted in if new evidence is found, including scenes-of-crime experts and forensic scientists.
The team is currently sifting through 20,000 pages of evidence assembled by Portuguese detectives. They will review witness statements, make a fresh appeal for ­information and carefully re-check alibis.
A police source said: “They will be looking for something that has been overlooked or not developed which could lead to a fresh line of inquiry – a sighting, a tip-off, something that didn’t ring bells at the time but could be vital.


Oh dear. So, Scotland Yard are working with former Detective Inspector David Edgar but ignoring Gonc and his mummified, frozen cadavers.

And checking alibis? There's only one person I can think of with a dodgy alibi, and that is Robert Murat.

I seem to recall some story about Martin Smith trying to give him an alibi to help him, only for Murat to say he was at home with his mum?

He doesn't want his work reviewed because it will prove that he tried to stitch them up, and to manufacture evidence. That's presuming that anyone can make any sense of it, of course. He was either drunk or hung over most of the time. When he wasn't using this case as get out of gaol card in The Cipriano Affair.

I sometimes get brief flashes of insight into the whole appalling situation, which leave me reeling from the horror of it all. The incompetence of The Portuguese Judicial System, and how easily Kate and Gerry could have been convicted on false evidence, if The Whole World hadn't been watching.
Even Kate's Lawyer was worried about what might happen if she didn't confess to something she hadn't done.
I am still trying to get my head around that man. Why was he so afraid? Why would he have considered the option if he had been in Kate's shoes? Does he think that The Portuguese Justice System is corrupt? It takes Judges to convict, you know. The PJ don't do it all by themselves.

It seems to me that this Lawyer had given up any hope of a fair trial. This is truly frightening.

I wonder if Team Gonc, and the rest of the hounders and haters, know how RIDICULOUS they look right this minute?

I also want to know why it took The British Government so long to look into the disappearance of a missing British child when it was obvious that the investigation had been botched by, at the very least, an incompetent policeman. They know that all relevant information had been sent on time, including the doubtful Gaspar Statements. That alone should have been enough to raise alarm bells.

International Relations as an excuse, just won't do. Even The British Ambassador was worried about what was going on. He must have imparted his fears to those in power.

Scotland Yard aren't interested. They would rather talk to a real ex copper.

I suspect that the UK government has known for a long time that Gonc's 'investigation' was a shambles; that it was not, in fact, an investigation but an exercise in framing the McCanns.

This always makes me smile:

During a more relaxed moment at one of these meetings, I come out with an ill-judged comment. Inopportune or undiplomatic, but this is my reasoning: thinking about the kinds of crime that may have been committed if the McCanns were involved in their daughter's disappearance, something occurs to me. If they were involved in one way or another, then a crime of fraud or abuse of trust is a possibility concerning the fund that was set up to finance the search for Madeleine. Donations have reached nearly 3 million Euros.

If such a crime exists, Portugal would not have jurisdiction to investigate and try it. The fund being legally registered in England, it would be our English colleagues who would deal with the case. Our English colleagues then realise a hard reality: the strong possibility that they would have a crime to investigate in their own country, with the McCann couple as the main suspects: a prospect that does not seem to appeal to them. I notice a sudden pallor in the faces of those British people present.

See? He has already decided that the McCanns have 'committed crimes' - classic pitchforker thinking.
He then goes on to invent crimes, and totally misunderstands why the UK police have gone white; they have realised they are dealing with a raving lunatic.

Let's remember: it is totally logical to find Madeleine's DNA in the home, but absolutely not in a car rented more than twenty days after her disappearance.

Of course The UK Government knew what was going on. What did the hope to do? Ignore it as they did in the case of Michael Cook? Who incidentally appeared in Court with two black eyes and teeth missing.

Cameron of all involved Prime Ministers has been shamed into acting by The McCann's Petition, but then he didn't have to deal with The Lisbon Treaty.
That is the truth of what happened with Gordon Brown. He didn't want to make waves in defence of The McCanns which could have spoiled his hour of glory.
And he certainly didn't need to demand the removal of Gonc. The PJ managed that all by themselves.

What did we get, by the way, from The Lisbon Treaty, other than a massive great debt?

Which, has brought on a tantrum from the renowned liar. I expect there will more heel druming from him before this is over.That's what Amaral does when things are not going his way. Not professionalized is the poor old drunk. So sad.

I had several wonderful holidays on The Algarve, and actually at the time of The Revolution. I would like to say that I sensed fear in the markets when the police went stomping through, but I wasn't sure if I was imagining things.

However, my husband was in Portugal on a Naval Mission before the fall of Salazar, and he was in no doubt whatsoever of the fear. He even thought that it was amusing to watch because it was so obvious. This might have been one of the reasons for why I divorced him. Fear is never amusing.
