Re: Boozed-up Portuguese police chief threatens drivers with gun
It’s another shocking case of a police chief who refused to “blow into the bag” when showing signs of being over the limit, but this one resorted to violence as well and is even believed to have threatened drivers with his service revolver.
The embarrassing case took place in Viseu, and the officer in question is now “off sick” and being accompanied by a team of PSP psychologists, writes Correio da Manhã.
His downfall began after he was “violent with colleagues” at his police station - after showing clear signs of having drunk too much.
As agents insisted that he blow into a breathalyzer, the traffic division cop is reported to have stormed out of the station, kicking in a window as he went.
He then got into his vehicle and during a “discussion in the traffic”, according to CM, pulled out his service revolver and threatened two drivers with death.
Both were said to be terrified - and they have now pressed charges.
The officer, who also faces charges over his behaviour in the station, thus awaits what will effectively be a disciplinary double-whammy.
This is just the latest in a long line of police disgrace stories.
Last month, a boozed-up police chief is alleged to have killed a teenage cyclist in Quarteira in an inexplicable hit-and-run, while two PSP officers were detained in the Lisbon area for threatening their own partners with guns and domestic violence.
In Montijo, also, a naval policeman recently threatened his son’s football coach with a pistol, and in Lagos in January two off-duty GNR officers were arrested by PSP colleagues for firing shots in the air on a night out. The pair were reportedly drunk.
