Judicial Police chief arrested Suspected traffickers receive gloves.

Judicial Police chief arrested Suspected traffickers receive gloves.
Ricardo Macedo and Dias Santos, respectively Chief Inspector in assets and now retired engineer, two historical paintings of combating drug trafficking of the Judicial Police, were this morning held a mega-operation's own PJ under suspicion of corruption and money laundering, the receipt of major trafficking networks gloves, to provide inside information and create diversions, within the PJ, which allowed the entry of large amounts of cocaine in Portugal in recent years, thus escaping the police control. There are connections, found the CM, one of the major drug cartels in South America.
Carlos Anjos: "Everyone who works in PJ was not surprised" In megaoperation 'Achilles' were arrested a total of 15 men, aged between 39 and 61 years, the vast majority for drug trafficking with links to two policemen.
Research has more than two years and is conducted by the National Unit for Combating Corruption PJ, in conjunction with prosecutors Vítor Magalhães and João Melo, the Central Department of Investigation and Penal Action. The investigation began after a complaint arrival to the Central Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DCIAP).
The same revealed the alleged disappearance of a shipment of hundreds of kilograms of cocaine from a container unloaded in the port of Sines in the summer of 2013. At the same time it was seized in the port of Lisbon a load of 811 kilograms of cocaine. But the same suspects have disappeared 500 kilos of the same drug, which were later seized in Greece in circumstances unclear. In both cases, the suspects have indicated in tapping the names of Ricardo Macedo and day Saints addressed the payment of tens of thousands of euros to prevent further seizures and locate the missing drugs.
The investigation, however, extended to more than three dozen of the fight against drugs in the PJ inspectors. Many said they know to be bugged and being followed by fellow combat corruption.
Carlos Dias Santos retired from the PJ in 2011, after 34 years of service. It became famous as a coordinator in the fight against drugs. For example: their teams arrested twice Franquelim Pereira Lobo, the largest dealer of Portuguese drug. Have seized between 2003 and 2008, 37 tons of hashish, nine of cocaine, 221 kilograms of heroin and about 12 million belonging to trafficking networks.
Was these functions until September 2008. He was removed by the national leadership of the PJ to banditry (violent crime) after an internal whistleblowing. Already away combating drugs, it has been awarded a merit cross by Guardia Civil - precisely the work against trafficking. Eventually reform in the Central Directorate for Combating Banditry (DCCB), current National Counter Terrorism Unit.
search target homes already Ricardo Macedo, also made most of his career at the former Director of Central Research to Drug Trafficking (DCITE), current National Unit to Combat Drug Trafficking. He was arrested this morning to get to the workplace, in PJ's facilities. Despite being the chief inspector had section coordinating functions because of the lack of engineers in PJ.
Judicial Police chief arrested The rooms of the former coordinator and chief inspector were targeted search early on Tuesday. In total, the "Achilles" operation mobilized nearly two hundred and fifty members of the Judicial Police, as well as judges and prosecutors, have been made about a hundred and twenty searches, domiciliary and non domiciliary, throughout the national territory. Detainees will be present at the first court hearing for the application of enforcement measures.
The investigation, according to PJ, will continue with a view to collect more evidence. The latest scandal to hit the PJ department responsible for combating drug trafficking occurred in 2007: the coordinator Ana Paula Matos was investigated and arrested later by embezzling 94,000 euros seizures of the drug dealers. Eventually sentenced to seven years and is held in Brazil awaiting extradition.

Yes, Pedro - thanks very much for that report!
Carlos Dias Santos retired from the PJ in 2011, after 34 years of service. It became famous as a coordinator in the fight against drugs.
Isn't that the department Gonzo was in, till he was moved and started fouling up missing child cases?

PJ chief inspector arrested on suspicion of corruption
A chief inspector described as working “for many years” with the PJ’s drugs squad was taken into custody by his own police force on Tuesday, suspected of corruption, money-laundering and trafficking. Also detained was a former PJ coordinator, now retired, and suspected of similar offences. Sábado broke the news, suggesting more arrests would follow with the focus on a massive network smuggling “large quantities of cocaine”.
In fact, Sábado named the chief inspector as Ricardo Macedo, and his former coordinator as Dias Santos.
The investigation dubbed Operation Achilles has taken years to unravel because of its complexity.
According to papers picking up on the details, the men are thought to have “received bribes from important trafficking networks to supply privileged information and create diversion tactics, within the PJ, that allowed large quantities of cocaine to be smuggled into Portugal over the years without coming to the notice of police forces”.
Tuesday’s operation was led by the PJ’s UNCC (national anti-corruption unit), in collaboration with the UNCTE (drug squad) and DCIAP (central department of investigation).
As many 15 people are thought to have been arrested on various charges, all connected to both corruption and trafficking.
Ages of those arrested range from 39 to 61, writes national tabloid Correio da Manhã.

Look at that fine, upstanding PJ inspector, in front of a supposed drugs haul. What was the deal - they arrested a few minnows, made a few busts to make things look good, while turning a blind eye to other, HUGE, shipments and deals?

http://www.dn.pt/sociedade/interior/historico-do-trafico-nacional-e-suspeito-de-corromper-chefes-da-pj-5112204.html
National traffic history is suspected of corrupt leaders of the PJ
Ricardo Macedo, who was arrested, is coordinator PJ
Detained two inspectors and a cable GNR suspected of receiving traffickers gloves. Franclim Wolf is one of the targets
The paths of Holy Days and Franclim Wolf crossed several times in the years 1990 and 2000. The first was a "star" of the Judicial Police (PJ) in the fight against drug trafficking. The other was considered one of Portugal's biggest drug traffickers, have been repeatedly investigated and convicted of that crime. Now they are both, together with the inspector Ricardo Macedo, in the same situation: they are suspected of passive and active corruption. Yesterday the PJ inspectors arrested the two - day Saints is already retired - a cable of GNR and 12 more people. According to information gathered by DN Franclim Wolf is one of the "targets" of the investigation, may soon be arrested.
Operation Achilles, as PJ called it, was triggered in the early hours of yesterday morning. Almost 200 inspectors have been mobilized to the ground, making 120 searches and making arrests 15 people. Day Saints was one of them, as well as Ricardo Macedo, who was arrested by colleagues of the National Unit against Corruption when it came to PJ's facilities. Both are suspected for years, having received money from drug traffickers to pass nformation or even to halt investigations. Franclim Wolf is one of those that would count with the collaboration of the two "moles" of the National Combat Drug Trafficking Unit. Yesterday, contacted by DN, Victor Carreto Ribeiro, a lawyer who represents in many cases, he said he was unaware of their whereabouts. The DN know, however, that Franclim Wolf may already be located in Spain.
And the DN found, the payments would be made in cash, probably through intermediaries, which hampered the investigation in this case, since there were no bank movements disclosing an abnormal circulation of money.
House in Cascais
It was a recent real estate business done by Dias Santos, in Cascais, which turned out to research the track was missing: the money trail. And the DN found, the former coordinator of the Judiciary will have bought a house whose value is well above their income. Carlos Dias Santos is a historic PJ who was until 2011 the police, a total of 34 years of service. In 2008 was one of the principal investigators of the Directorate Central Narcotics Trafficking Investigation. Between 2003 and 2008, seized 37 tons of hashish, nearly nine tons of cocaine, 221 kilograms of heroin and about 12 million from drug trafficking. In November 2008, he was removed from UNCTE by the National Directorate PJ due to an internal complaint.
Ricardo Macedo also made his inspector career in combating drug trafficking, having worked, by the way, side by side with day Saints (classmate of the current national director of the PJ, Almeida Rodrigues). This was to leave the UNCTE, his superior in the same brigade. As day Saints, we have received thousands of euros traffickers.
Yesterday, the Deputy National Director of Judicial went to UNCTE "give a reliable word," according to a source, the inspectors, who a few years ago were also faced with the case of inspector Ana Paula Matos, convicted of embezzling money seized in the investigations.
The 15 people arrested will be present today, a judge of the Criminal Court Central, be it Charles Alexander as Ivo Rosa. Prosecutors in this research Vítor Magalhães and João Melo, the DCIAP. Day Saints has the lawyer Melo Alves, who for years defended drug suspects arrested by the customer now.

Re: PJ inspectors arrested over drug trafficking
I nearly forgot, Mrs Gonzo was also affected by this terrible Curse:
https://jatyk2.forumotion.co.uk/t3411-corruption-in-portimao-and-portugal
The charges against the Portimão five are variously "corruption, maladministration, money laundering and economic participation in business" according to the Lisbon Central Court's proseuctors.
The crimes in question are related to Portimão's operating company Portimão Urbis and with other companies, including this company's ‘training partner’ that aimed to train employees, but didn’t.
This training was for the Picture Portugal project which aimed to create a vast film industry complex, Cidade do Cinema (Cinema City) near the ill-fated Autodrome Internacional do Algarve. This film production project, its finances and those involved are being investigated.
It is a matter of record that Mrs Gonzo was employed by Portimao Urbis. #prayformrsgonzo

Perhaps he's just a bit unlucky?
Intriguing how much he is revered in certain quarters, while the McCanns are castigated for being criminals. I think perhaps we have inadvertently wandered into a parallel universe.

Yes, it is fascinating that every single accusation the haters invent to throw at the McCann family - actually applies to the Gonzo gang in reality.
Maybe Gonzo is just an appallingly bad judge of character?

Pedro posted this in our General News section:

My friends, this was taken from Correio da Manhã newspaper:
http://www.cmjornal.xl.pt/nacional/portugal/detalhe/gnr_esconde_fortuna_da_droga_a_chefe_da_pj.html
Cable hiding drug fortune head of Military PJ Torres Vedras is a key player in the whole scheme.
The cable head José da Silva, the GNR, would be a figurehead of Ricardo Macedo, trying to hide the illicit fortune of the Chief Inspector of the Judiciary, obtained in a corruption scheme that ran for favoring drug traffickers.
The military was the bridge with trafficking networks, who took the precious information that Macedo gave him about acting, or lack of it, of PJ - and paid the luxury expenses of the man who coordinated one of the main sections of combating trafficking .
a life that was not compatible with just over 2000 euros of salary of a chief inspector of the PJ, despite more than 30 years of service.
And what passed for luxury travel to destinations like Brazil, which were paid by the friend of the GNR of Torres Vedras, a property and money in the bank, all in the name of the military, who did the dirty work of Macedo and was working as treasurer .
It was the military who went directly to dealers the information was getting from his friend Macedo - on how to trafficking networks to circulate their drug in Portugal without being bothered by PJ - receiving in return thousands of euros for services rendered.
After distributing money by Ricardo Macedo and Dias Santos - PJ coordinator has already retired and would be the brain of the corruption scheme, the old links to traffickers from their service times.
But in the case of Macedo, due to the fact of being still active and can not display outward signs of wealth in his name, was the cable of GNR José da Silva who kept his money paid by traffickers.
Dias Santos, retired with mobility, less exposed - even though his name was the subject of complaints by corruption for years - not avoided displaying signs of wealth. Everything was spent fine-tooth comb by the Unit for Combating Corruption and framed, for example, wiretapping.
Absolutely astounding! The depth of betrayal of their office, and country, by older members of the PJ is deeply shocking.
