Re: Al Quaeda splinter group sweeping through Iraq
It also begs the question, why do they seem more scared of their own people than those who could possibly do great harm?

Re: Al Quaeda splinter group sweeping through Iraq
This business of spying on everyone is crazy, Lily, it makes the US government look totally paranoid.
Britain was bombed by the Luftwaffe at the cost of tens of thousands of lives; hundreds were killed by the IRA in recent times - they even killed MPs in the Commons, and very nearly Margaret Thatcher. Then there were the 7/7 bombs.
But no-one here is going around scared of their own shadows; little though I like Cameron, he has very little security when he's off-duty and mixing with the public. I have NEVER seen him with an entourage - even the Queen doesn't behave like that.
By being scared of everyone, including former soldiers, the US government is doing the terrorists' job for them, because they're spreading fear out of all proportion.

Re: Al Quaeda splinter group sweeping through Iraq
Of course the Queen doesn't, and Cameron, as you said. Who thinks taking an entourage of 900 personnel is normal when touring friendly countries?
That is scary paranoia......If a person feels they are really doing a good job for the people, what do they have to fear?
ETA: Oops. Answered my own question.

Some say that the first and the second world wars were about large profits to the few. And look how many fell for that one. Or two.

Fortunes were undeniably made by profiteering, Sabot, but I personally feel that was the effect rather than the cause.
It certainly wasn't blatant, like Biden's son, and a crony of Kerry's, getting cosy seats in Ukrainian oil just after Biden and Kerry had destabilized Ukraine and installed a puppet government.
I'm glad it's being reported openly now that Saudi Arabia is financing a lot of the terrorism, which opens a whole new can of worms. It has one of the worst human rights records in the world, but never a word is said about that.
Remember the howls of rage from certain in the west when Russia banned the teaching of gay sex to schoolchildren? But not a word is EVER said about KSA's outright persecution of gays, along with anyone else they feel like.
Indeed, Obama goes to KSA and bows to the king...

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/06/19/somali-americans-leave-homes-friends-in-minnesota-to-fight-alongside-isis/
FBI officials in Minneapolis told MPR News that as many as 15 Somali-Americans left for Syria in recent months, and that the agency is investigating.
'Investigating'? Isn't it a bit late, as the US citizen is now in the Middle East with the Ali Snackbars?
Maybe the FBI, etc., would be better employed keeping an eye on what is right under their noses, than spying on law-abiding citizens' emails.

Just look at what the CIA wastes time and money on...

CIA Toyed With Idea Of Bin Laden Devil Doll

The CIA once considered employing a different kind of weapon in its war on terror: a devil-like Osama bin Laden action figurine.
The plan was said to have been devised in 2005, when the terror mastermind was still America's most wanted man.
The 30cm (12in) dolls featured traditional garb and had faces painted with dissolving material that would peel off and show a demon-like red complexion with black marks and green eyes.
The idea behind the project, code-named Devil Eyes, was to turn children away from bin Laden and counter his influence.
"To our knowledge, there were only three individual action figures ever created, and these were merely to show what a final product might look like," CIA spokesman Ryan Trapani told the Post.
"After being presented with these examples, the CIA declined to pursue this idea and did not produce or distribute any of these action figures.
"Furthermore, CIA has no knowledge of these action figures being produced or distributed by others."
Bin Laden was killed in 2011 in a US raid by Navy Seals on Abbottabad, Pakistan.
Did it never occur to those idiots that not only would that not have 'scared' anyone, it would have become a collectable on eBay?
As a Cunning Plan, it's right up there with making Fidel Castro's beard fall out.
This, on the other hand, terrifies everyone:

Look now, I'm not sure that what I have read about The CIA over the years is actually true. But if even only one fraction is then they are a disgrace, and so is The American Government, which ever Government that might have been.
This is probably why I think that the President, whichever one, is just a dick head figure head. More bloody fool them, whoever they were or are.

Re: Al Quaeda splinter group sweeping through Iraq
My 'speechless' over Iraq has been pretty much used up for the day by the CIA Bin Laden Action Man, but the return of one of Saddam's deputies has revived it.
A proper army, with religious maniacs acting as cannon fodder, is a different proposition from just religious maniacs - I wonder how long this has been planned?
Oh Lord, I've just realised what Obama has done. He's been supplying weapons to Saddam's deputy via the 'nice rebels'. Saddam must be cackling in Hell.

Well, there's bit that are true....
Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics.
Can't argue with that!
I am just trying to get to grips with the Stupid of indirectly supplying a dreaded foe, whom you've twice declared dead, with state of the art weapons. And failing to notice just who is using your weapons to build a whole new army.

Re: Al Quaeda splinter group sweeping through Iraq
http://news.sky.com/story/1286443/iraq-shia-cleric-issues-threat-to-us-forces
A Shia cleric loyal to anti-US cleric Moqtada al Sadr has warned that the 300 US military advisers en route to Iraq will be attacked.
In a sermon from Baghdad's Sadr City district, Nassir al Saedi threatened what he called "the occupier", saying: "We will be ready for you if you are back."
The warning comes after President Barack Obama announced the deployment of US military advisers, made up mostly of special forces.
That is seriously bad news; that means its not just Sunni fanatics involved.

Quite a good piece about the roots of this mess; not surprisingly, Britain and France are to blame for drawing lines in sand anywhere they fancied a century ago.

The Obama administration isn’t ruling out airstrikes in Syria against a Sunni militant group that is on the march in Iraq.
“We don't restrict potential U.S. action to a specific geographic space,” a senior administration official said when asked whether military action could extend into Syria.
"The president's made clear time and again that we will take action as necessary, including direct U.S. military action, if it's necessary to defend the United States against an imminent threat," the official said.
President Obama on Thursday said he is sending 300 advisers to Iraq to help the country’s military battle back against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), which is rapidly taking territory. The president said the U.S. would be “prepared to take targeted and precise military action if and when we determine the situation requires it.”
Officials said the U.S. is conducting manned and unmanned surveillance flights around the clock to track ISIS’s movements.
"Clearly we're focused on Iraq. That's where our ISR [intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance] resources have surged. That's where we're working to develop additional intelligence," the official added.
"But the group [ISIS], again, operates broadly and we would not restrict our ability to take action that is necessary to protect the United States."
The official noted the U.S. has taken action in Yemen against the group al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, in Somalia against al-Shabaab, an al Qaeda affiliate there, and recently captured Abu Khatalla in Libya.
"So again, we're going to do what's necessary. Clearly we're focused on Iraq in terms of these additional resources and — but we'll continue to focus on the evolving threat of [ISIS] as we — as we consider different options," the official said.
Speechless again. How can he support them with one hand and bomb them with the other?
