Re: Death in the Middle East
Let's hope there isn't another tragedy, then, with Hamas getting the blame for one of its feeble rockets downing a jumbo when the Israeli airforce isn't flying, oh dear me no, perish the thought!

I am not making this up, I wish I was.
http://edition.cnn.com/2014/07/22/travel/israel-flights-suspended/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
(CNN) -- Several U.S. airlines suspended flights to Israel on Tuesday because of security concerns, with one company specifically citing a rocket attack near Tel Aviv.
Delta Air Lines and American Airlines both told CNN they suspended service to Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv. US Airways made the same decision, the Israel Airport Authority told CNN.
Citing "reports of a rocket or associated debris" near the airport, Delta said it suspended service between its hub in New York and Tel Aviv "to ensure the safety and security of our customers and employees."
Israel has said militants from Gaza have been launching rockets into the country for days, part of an ongoing military conflict between Israel and the Palestinian territory.
One immediate effect: Delta Flight 468, which left New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport with 273 passengers, diverted Tuesday to Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport instead of heading to Tel Aviv as scheduled, the airline said.
"Delta continues to work closely with U.S. and other government resources to monitor the situation," the airline said.
The Israel Airport Authority said the airport was safe, and called on the U.S. airlines to return to routine flight schedules at Tel Aviv.
"There is no reason that American carriers should stop flying to Israel and thus give a prize to terror," he said.

Malaysian Airlines got many flights into Israel? They seem to be having a run of bad luck....

UN school sheltering Gaza displaced hit by Israel shells
A United Nations school sheltering displaced Palestinians in central Gaza came under Israeli fire on Tuesday as a team was inspecting damage from a day earlier, a UN official said.
The official said a team, with Israeli clearance, was at the school run by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees UNRWA in Al-Maghazi when Israeli tank shelling resumed, hitting the building on Tuesday afternoon.

They'll be 'terrorists' too, no doubt, LL. The only consolation is that Israel is now hitting UN targets in front of UN witnesses. It's no comfort to the dead and injured, but it makes it harder for Israel to lie its way out of it and claim everyone except them is a 'terrorist'.

http://news.sky.com/story/1305691/airlines-halt-israel-flights-amid-rocket-fire
Quote:
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued an advisory banning American airlines from flying to Tel Aviv for 24 hours after Delta, US Airways and United all cancelled services to Israel.
Air France, Dutch airline KLM and German carrier Lufthansa later announced they had followed suit.
Israel's Transportation Ministry called on the airlines to rethink their decision, insisting that the nation's busiest air hub was secure.
"Ben Gurion Airport is safe and completely guarded and there is no reason whatsoever that American companies would stop their flights and hand terror a prize," it said in a statement.
Excuse me? There is NO SUCH THING as 'completely guarded'. And frankly, I suspect most people care less about whatever 'terror' crap Israel is pushing, than about NOT seeing any more downed airliners.
I do hope Israel didn't have any schemes for 'accidents' to get the world's sympathies?

I doubt they would be so abysmally stupid, but no flights to Israel from the big carriers equals a drop in tourist revenue. And I bet all those armamants are costing them an arm and both legs. There is definite panic in thisI do hope Israel didn't have any schemes for 'accidents' to get the world's sympathies?

Hmm. You know, if Hamas rethought their tactics, and started causing Israel financial damage, Israel might start seeing a few things differently? They can't expect to be kept by the US forever, surely.

Re: Death in the Middle East
Oh, yes they can, so long as they continue to play the 'Holocaust Card'. We all know they were nearly wiped out, and now it is brought up each time Israel feels threatened. My friend Chaim says that it's normal practice to make the Goyim (non-Jewish) nations feel they owe the Jews for what was done to them. As for 'next year in Israel' most Jews would rather fly into space without benefit of spaceship than spend a night there. I would support a Jew against anyone, but an Israeli .... no comment. Re: Death in the Middle East
Israel has an easy way out of all this, a positive reply to a simple request that HAMAS keeps making, lift the blockade, allow food etc into Gaza, restore the electricity and give Gaza back its dignity. No running fresh water, sewage in the streets, kids with no shoes, food shortages .... the list is endless of what the Gaza people have had to suffer since, against the demands of Israel, HAMAS came to power in the strip. They won fair and square, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_legislative_election,_2006 But Israel went into a snit because they realised HAMAS were a far different kettle of fish from FATAH. The Gaza people suffer because Israel doesn't like the government they elected. So babies die of malnutrition and disease, as well as being blown to bits by a rabid set of killers. LL

I've just been watching the UN Human Rights people on this subject, and IMO, the Israelis are committing war crimes. They are deliberately targetting civilians and using those fletchette missiles to inflict as much damage as possible on human beings.

As long as Israel has the kind of backing it has, there will be no accusations of war crimes or possible genocides. I don't really know, bonny, but I would think wherever Jews emigrated to after WW2, Canada, Australia, maybe but read the second link below. I think India does and I assume the UK, though I think the UK lobby is not that Zionist as such, going by the number of Jews who emigrated there after the War and then left and went back home, again read second link. Guess what, it's over money - diamonds, to be precise. The 'human shields' meme features heavily. I still haven't seen anything resembling evidence, never mind proof, of this much-parrotted phrase.

Israel pounds Gaza amid renewed truce efforts
Israeli forces target multiple sites across Gaza, as US secretary of state arrives in Tel Aviv to pursue ceasefire.
Israeli forces have pounded multiple sites across the Gaza Strip, including the enclave's only power station, as diplomats intensified efforts to end the bloodshed.
Palestinian emergency services said that at least six people were killed and 20 injured early on Wednesday during prolonged bombardment of the southern town of Khan Younis.
Wednesday’s deaths bring the number of Palestinians killed during the 16-day Israeli assault on Gaza to 648, including scores of children. More than 4,000 people have been injured.
The number of Israelis who have died has climbed to 31 - 29 soldiers and two civilians. One other soldier remains missing, but is presumed dead, according to the Israeli army.
Gaza residents on Wednesday said Israel attacked the power station which provides electricity to half the population of Gaza.
A spokesman for the power station told Al Jazeera that its main equipment was hit last night, adding that now only 10 percent of Gazans received electricity.
Electricity supplies from Israel were cut short last week, after Israel said that rockets from Gaza had damaged the infrastructure.
A rocket fired from Gaza on Tuesday hit Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion international airport prompted major US and European airlines to suspend their flights from and to Israel, a blow to Israel's economy.

Do you know, Lily, I somehow suspect that, decades from now - if these lunatics haven't turned the planet into a smoking ember - people will be regarding the slaughter in Gaza, and the slaughter in Eastern Ukraine, with the same horror as we regard the slaughter in Guernica.
Targetting civilians with heavy modern weaponry and fighter planes makes whoever is doing it terrorist, IMO.

As we watch the horrifying slaughter unfold in Gaza, bear in mind the Israeli psychosis that fuels and justifies it. Here are comments from three rightwing Israelis – two leading politicians and a professor – who very much reflect a strain of mainstream thinking in Israel, one that the international media largely avoids noting.
Each, in their different ways, is advocating a genocide of the Palestinians.
