Re: Anti-Corbyn coup fails - so far!
Nice bit of traditional British
http://news.sky.com/story/1717625/corbyn-sacks-hilary-benn-over-leadership-coup
Jeremy Corbyn has sacked Hilary Benn from the shadow cabinet amid suggestions he was planning a coup to oust the Labour leader.
Mr Corbyn dramatically sacked his shadow foreign secretary in a midnight call after six months of simmering tensions between the two following Mr Benn's high-profile support for military action in Syria.
His departure has sparked speculation half the shadow cabinet could follow him out of the door and one shadow cabinet minister told Sky News they were considering their position.
A Labour source said: "We expect more resignations. There is now a critical mass of people that makes Jeremy Corbyn's position as leader untenable."
Shadow housing minister Roberta Blackman-Woods tweeted: "This is sad news indeed and I cannot understand how Jeremy thinks it will help his worsening position with the PLP."

The Labour party appears to be falling apart faster than I can follow....
http://news.sky.com/story/1717625/labour-civil-war-after-corbyn-sacks-benn
The Labour party has been plunged into civil war after Jeremy Corbyn sacked shadow foreign secretary Hilary Benn, with half the shadow cabinet expected to follow him out of the door.
Mr Corbyn dramatically sacked his shadow foreign secretary in a midnight call amid suggestions Mr Benn was plotting a coup against the leader.
This morning shadow health minister Heidi Alexander resigned in protest at Mr Corbyn's leadership, telling him in a letter: "As much as I respect you as a man of principle, I do not believe you have the capacity to shape the answers our country is demanding."
Another shadow cabinet minister told Sky News: "Jeremy Corbyn has lost the confidence of the shadow cabinet, the Parliamentary Labour Party and its grassroots members. Enough is enough."
They called on the Labour leader to "do the decent thing".
A politician? Do something 'decent'?

Oh. They've got a Twitter storm planned. Looks like the coup is over before it even begun.
OMG, not a twitterstorm! They really do mean business, then!

I will be quite honest, LL, I've never heard of her. She's made zero impact on me previously.
I am losing track of the coup - is it Blairites trying to take back control? Or the even harder Left trying to take over? Or is it just a general bunfight and score-settling?

Yes, I know what you mean, LL. Corbyn is so ineffectual, while providing much comedy value, I hadn't actually paid much attention to him or the shadow cabinet.
About all I could tell you is that he and Diana Abbott had a fling when they were younger and went round East Germany on a motorbike. Which doesn't help much.

Re: Anti-Corbyn coup fails - so far!
Gloria De Piero, the shadow minister for young people and voter registration, has resigned from shadow cabinet,
IAN Murray is expected to resign today as Shadow Scottish Secretary, according to reports.
The Edinburgh South MP’s decision will increase the pressure on Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, with a string of shadow cabinet resignations expected this morning.
Mr Murray is Labour’s only MP in Scotland. ETA He says he has resigned.

Re: Anti-Corbyn coup fails - so far!
I've heard of Angela Eagle - she was one of the shouty women on that Brexit debate that gave me a stinking headache.
I've found Murray's resignation letter online, it's actually not bad:
Jamie Ross @JamieRoss7 20m20 minutes ago
Ian Murray's letter of resignation to Jeremy Corbyn.
And I now understand a bit better what this is about - they think Corbyn is a useless idiot.

I confess, I have NO idea who most of them are.

I have absolutely NO idea who that is. But I expect he's awfully Important.

Re: Anti-Corbyn coup fails - so far!
Oh yes.....
He should have kept that look, tried to be a bit more authorative.
I gather that the Chilcott Report is being released shortly, and some are speculating that the Blairites have launched this chaos to distract from the possibility that there might be a bit of criticism of Tony. For little things like telling a pack of lies to take the country to war.
