And wasn't there something to do with some Secrecy Law or other? Although one might be forgiven for wondering about that since the only ones obeying it seem to have been The McCanns.

And that's a good point - at the time Murat was first suspected, the McCanns probably had the naive idea that the PJ paid attention to all that 'secrecy' stuff; they had no way of knowing that Gonzo was running his mouth off to Portuguese tabloids at every opportunity.
