Two suspects have been detained over the murder of Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov.
Russian state TV Rossiya-24 quoted the head of Russia's Federal Security Service, Alexander Bortnikov, as saying President Vladimir Putin has been informed of the detention.
"I would like to inform you that the work that has been conducted has resulted in two suspects in this crime being detained today. They are a Gubashev, Anzor and a Dadayev, Zaur," he said in a video posted on state TV Channel One's website.
No further details were provided about the suspects, but RIA Novosti news agency quoted Mr Bortnikov as saying that both were from the Caucasus.
No charges were immediately announced.

Two suspects in the high-profile murder of opposition politician Boris Nemtsov have been detained, the Federal Security Service (FSB) reported.
According to FSB chief Aleksandr Bortnikov, the suspects were identified as Anzor Gubashev and Zaur Dadayev.
Bortnikov said both suspects come from Russia’s southern region of the North Caucasus, a restive place with insurgency and crime problems.
The investigation into the crime is ongoing, he added, speaking to Russian media.

Nemstov, a former Russian governor and deputy prime minister, who became a prominent opposition figure in the early 2000s, was gunned down in central Moscow on February 27. The assassination triggered worldwide condemnation and calls for swift investigation.
The politician was killed on a bridge over the Moscow River near the Kremlin as he was returning home with a female companion. The shooter hit Nemtsov in the back four times and fled in a getaway car.
The crime is being investigated by a joint task force, which includes the police, the FSB and the Investigative Committee.

The prime witness to the crime, Ukrainian model, Anna Duritskaya, who was accompanying Nemtsov, has since returned to Kiev. She told the media she was unable to identify the killer.
The killing happened two days ahead of an opposition rally Nemtsov helped organize. The rally was replaced with a mourning march in central Moscow, which drew tens of thousands of people.
-----------
It'll be such a disappointment to western warmongers like Obama and Cameron if it turns out that Nemtsov was shot by one of his fellow-gangsters, or in a feud over 'Ukrainian models'.
Incidentally, why is Western media still falsely claiming there's no CCTV of the killing? There is, which has led to much debate on the real role of the snowplough.

Re: War in Ukraine
http://news.sky.com/story/1440507/two-suspects-held-over-boris-nemtsov-shooting
Leading Russian opposition figures have suggested the murder was politically motivated, although authorities deny any involvement, saying it could have been a provocation aimed at tarnishing Mr Putin's image.
'Leading Russian opposition figures ' have done NO such thing - BECAUSE THE OPPOSITION IN RUSSIA IS THE COMMUNIST PARTY.
Nemtsov and co can't even get themselves elected as the local dog catcher, for all their backing from Washington. Possibly because Russian voters had enough of these gangsters during the chaotic Yeltsin years, when Washington puppets got free rein to loot the country.
Every single time Western media claims Nemstov and his ilk are the 'opposition', they are deliberately lying to viewers and readers.

Re: War in Ukraine
Although President Obama has decided for the time being to give European diplomacy a chance, hawks like Breedlove or Victoria Nuland are doing what they can to pave the way for weapons deliveries. "We can fight against the Europeans, fight against them rhetorically," Nuland said during a private meeting of American officials on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference at the beginning of February.

IMO, she and a good few others in the Obama regime are rotten to the core, Lily - and they ARE bringing the US into disrepute.
Do they think the rest of the world is stupid, like the Free Sh*t Army that elected him? Because they're not, the rest of the world can see Obama and co banging the wardrums while Europe tries to make the peace settlement work.
They can also see the likes of her LYING THROUGH THEIR TEETH.
Does she seriously think the rest of the world doesn't know all about Soros, Hunter Biden, the neo-Nazis, etc?
If I was a conspiraloon, I would think Obama's ordered them to do it on purpose, to make America look as bad as possible in the eyes of the rest of the world, thereby wrecking the country externally as well as internally.

Re: War in Ukraine
http://rt.com/news/238813-nemtsov-murder-charged-court/
Two people have been officially charged by a Moscow court in connection with the murder of Boris Nemtsov, a prominent opposition figure, who was gunned down last week. Three others are suspected of having a hand in the crime.
The charged are Zaur Dadaev and Anzor Gubashev, who were identified as suspects in the killing of Nemtsov after their detention on Saturday.
The other individuals, who may have had a hand in the crime, are Gubashev’s brother Shagid and two identified by their surnames: Bakhaev and Eskerkhanov. The request for their arrest is being reviewed separately by another judge.
Nemtsov was killed by a gunman a few meters from the Moscow Kremlin, triggering a flurry of condemnations and calls for a swift investigation. The assassination happened two days ahead of an opposition rally, which Nemtsov helped to organize.
While a political motive is considered the most likely in the killing, the investigators said they were considering other versions, including a business or personal conflict.
It wasn’t immediately clear what exactly Dadaev and Gubashev were charged with, although earlier media reports indicated the duo are suspected of carrying out the hit.

Many believe that Nemtsov's death in a tightly secured area near the Kremlin wouldn't have been possible without official involvement, and could be an attempt to scare other government foes.
What utter pish! He was shot on a public footpath over a busy bridge, about a kilometre from the outer walls of the Kremlin.
It's no more 'tightly secured' than Tower Bridge - quite possibly less, as Russians are less paranoid about terrorists.
Shot by rival gangster, or some pimp annoyed about 'Ukrainian models' is far more realistic, though doubtless that doesn't play to the audience that thinks there are Putinbots under their beds.

It's awesome, isn't it, Lily? And do not tell me the State Department and Whitehall doesn't know all about the thugs, drunken morons, gangsters and neo-nazis they've put into power in Kiev.
There seems to be growing unrest all over Ukraine, so what is the US and UK going to do about that? They can't pretend that every single Ukrainian, except their pet thugs, is a Putinbot, FFS. Though they may be dumb enough to try.
The US and UK would be well advised to man up and admit they have screwed up very badly, stop warmongering over their revolting puppets, and BUTT OUT. Put a gag on idiot generals in NATO, and leave the EU, Russia, Donbass and Kiev to work out some kind of solution that doesn't involve more needless loss of life.
Which is what they should have done a year ago, of course, instead of the US ambassador and others fomenting regime change in a democratic, sovereign nation.

Re: War in Ukraine
I will not comment, but I thought it only fair to post this up. LLPutin admits planning annexation of Crimea weeks before referendum
International Business Times
By Tom Porter
March 9, 2015 15:24 GMT
Russian president Vladimir Putin has admitted that he ordered the annexation of Crimea months before the country's disputed referendum.
Russian president Vladimir Putin revealed that he secretly planned the annexation of Crimea months before the country's disputed independence referendum.
Putin says that he ordered work on "returning Crimea to Russia" at an all night meeting, days before masked gunmen appeared in the peninsula in February 2014.
Speaking in a forthcoming Russian TV documentary, Putin said a meeting with officials had been held on 22-23 February to plan the rescue of Ukraine's deposed president.
"I invited the leaders of our special services and the defence ministry to the Kremlin and set them the task of saving the life of the president of Ukraine [Viktor Yanukovych], who would simply have been liquidated," he said.
"We finished about seven in the morning. When we were parting, I told all my colleagues, 'We are forced to begin the work to bring Crimea back into Russia'."
Crimea was formally absorbed into Russia on March 18, following disputed referendum.
Putin's claims in the interview contradict those he has made previously, that the decision to annex Crimea into Russia was made after the independence referendum on March 16, the BBC reported.
Four days after the meeting, armed masked men wearing no military insignia on their uniforms seized control of government buildings, and surrounded Ukrainian military bases in Crimea.
Russia initially denied that they were members of Russia's armed forces, and claimed that they were local insurgents.
Subsequently, Putin said that Russian special forces were present in the peninsula to protect ethnic Russians.
An independence referendum whose legality was disputed by Kiev and the West was held on March 16, and two days later Putin signed a bill formally acknowledging Russia's incorporation into Crimea.
Putin also reveals details of how Yanukovich was taken from Donetsk, in east Ukraine.

Good for him! He saved thousands of Crimeans from being slaughtered by Our Gallant Allies, or being burned to death by the Nazi scum the West is supporting.
It's a pity Putin didn't manage to save the Crimeans that were machine-gunned on buses on Ukrainian territory by the Nazi scum the West is supporting.
Indeed, the way things have turned out, it's a pity Putin didn't move Russian troops all the way up to the Western border of Donbass and leave the thieving, Nazi scum the West is supporting to kill each other, instead of innocent people.
It's not Putin that has regime-changed, invaded, bombed and destroyed ancient, sovereign nations thousands of miles from Russia.
IT'S US.
WE have become the biggest threat to world peace - or rather, Washington has, along with its pathetic poodles in Whitehall like Hammond and Cameron.
I am utterly ashamed of what we have become.

More warmongers:
http://www.paulcraigroberts.org/2015/03/09/breedloves-bellicosity-berlin-alarmed-aggressive-nato-stance-ukraine/
Quote:
It was quiet in eastern Ukraine last Wednesday. Indeed, it was another quiet day in an extended stretch of relative calm. The battles between the Ukrainian army and the pro-Russian separatists had largely stopped and heavy weaponry was being withdrawn. The Minsk cease-fire wasn’t holding perfectly, but it was holding.
On that same day, General Philip Breedlove, the top NATO commander in Europe, stepped before the press in Washington. Putin, the 59-year-old said, had once again “upped the ante” in eastern Ukraine — with “well over a thousand combat vehicles, Russian combat forces, some of their most sophisticated air defense, battalions of artillery” having been sent to the Donbass. “What is clear,” Breedlove said, “is that right now, it is not getting better. It is getting worse every day.”
German leaders in Berlin were stunned. They didn’t understand what Breedlove was talking about. And it wasn’t the first time. Once again, the German government, supported by intelligence gathered by the Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND), Germany’s foreign intelligence agency, did not share the view of NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR).
The pattern has become a familiar one. For months, Breedlove has been commenting on Russian activities in eastern Ukraine, speaking of troop advances on the border, the amassing of munitions and alleged columns of Russian tanks. Over and over again, Breedlove’s numbers have been significantly higher than those in the possession of America’s NATO allies in Europe. As such, he is playing directly into the hands of the hardliners in the US Congress and in NATO.
Please note, Paul Craig Roberts is a former colleague of President Reagan, who must be turning in his grave to see all the work he did to end the Cold War being undone by these madman.
It is looking more and more like Washington is determined to start a HUGE HOT WAR, as there is no other way out of the US's financial problems.

Interview with Putin, with English subtitles here:
http://rt.com/news/239197-putin-crimea-referendum-decision/
‘We did what we had to do’: Putin opens up on Crimea reunification plan
[video]
The decision to give Crimea an opportunity to choose if it wants to be a part of Russia again was made after an unofficial survey showed the majority of Crimeans would back reunification, Vladimir Putin revealed in an interview to a Russian TV channel.
The interview is part of a documentary, “Crimea. The Road Back Home,” scheduled to be aired by the Rossiya One TV channel. In the film, the Russian president has given new insights into the events leading up to last year's referendum in Crimea.
READ MORE: Paving the future: Ukraine’s Crimea goes to independence poll
The vote took place after days of violence on the streets of Kiev, which came to be known as the Maidan revolution. The government was overthrown in February 2014, and the Ukrainian president fled the capital.
The highly volatile situation prompted President Putin to convene an urgent meeting with his national security and defense chiefs, during which a crucial decision was taken.
“It was the night of the 22nd,” Putin told Rossiya One’s Andrey Kondrashov. “We were done by 7 am. And I won't conceal it, when we were saying goodbye, I told my colleagues – there were four of them – that the situation in Ukraine has evolved in such a way that we have to start work on returning Crimea to being a part of Russia. We couldn't abandon the territory and people who live there, couldn't just throw them under this nationalist bulldozer.”

LL posted a Western link to this story in good faith, Lily. But a key sentence was left off the end of Putin's actual words:
We couldn't abandon the territory and people who live there, couldn't just throw them under this nationalist bulldozer
Most people reading the IBT won't have checked with the original and seen that what Putin actually said had been edited.
And I have little doubt that if Yanukovych hadn't been gotten out, he would have gone the same way as Gaddafi at the hands of the 'protesters'. Sure, Yan was a thieving oligarch, but at least he wasn't a homicidal thieving oligarch like the current shower.
The same people that lied to us about Iraq, that lied to us about Libya, that tried to lie to us about Syria, are now trying to lie to us about Ukraine.

I'd love to see what would happen if Russia or China started supplying tanks to Mexico for use on the US border.
