Shoreditch Cereal Killer Cafe targeted by anti-gentrification protesters
Angry mob of activists threw paint and cereal at east London cereal cafe in ‘terrifying attack’ on customers, owners say
The owner of an east London “cereal cafe” has described his terror at being targeted by a group of anti-gentrification protesters who daubed the word “scum” on the cafe’s window.
Alan Keery, who with his brother Gary owns Cereal Killer Cafe in Shoreditch – which has been seen by some as a symbol of inequality in east London – described an “angry mob with torches and pigs’ heads” that gathered outside the building on Saturday evening
olice said one officer had suffered a minor facial injury as a result of a flying bottle and that one person had been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage during the protests, which took place over a large area of the E2 postcode.
Speaking to the London Evening Standard, Keery said: “There were children there – they were terrified. The staff were absolutely terrified. It was an angry mob throwing paint at the windows. They had torches and pigs’ heads.
“There were people shouting about gentrification and taking back east London. They’d brought cereal and they were throwing it at the shop.”
Can the Cereal Killer cafe, which sells only cereal, really make a killing?

The cereal café has sparked controversy since its opening in December last year. The brothers were forced to defend their prices after a Channel 4 interviewer asked whether local people could afford £3.20 for a bowl of cereal.
But Keery said he thought the attacks were “an absolute joke”. He added: “We’re a small business. There’s other big chain places around Shoreditch – me and my brother started a business out of absolutely nothing and we’re trying to grow it.

We’re being targeted as the poster boys of gentrification and that’s not our fault. I can’t agree with what they’re doing, the way they are dealing with gentrification. It feels like it’s been taken back to the dark ages – an angry mob with fire – it’s a bit of a witch-hunt. There’s paint thrown at the front and they tried to break the windows.
“They were trying to bash the door down – the customers had to barricade the door.”
The protest was advertised on Facebook as the third “F*ck Parade”, and was apparently organised by the anarchist group Class War. The event page stated: “Our communities are being ripped apart – by Russian oligarchs, Saudi Sheiks, Israeli scumbag property developers, Texan oil-money twats and our own home-grown Eton toffs. Local authorities are coining it in, in a short sighted race for cash by ‘regenerating’ social housing.

The word moronic is perfect. Is anyone forcing people to eat cereal in that overpriced place? Gentrification? Is it in Mayfair?

That's what I thought, Bonny.
They have to make tatty areas fashionable to justify the high property prices they want to charge in the future.

Labour Will Not Debate Trident After Union Blow
16:44, UK, Sunday 27 September 2015
Scrapping Trident is off the agenda at the Labour Conference after union leaders suggested they would vote against Jeremy Corbyn.
The issue, which was to be Mr Corbyn's first significant challenge as leader, will not be debated by the conference members, Sky sources have confirmed.
It comes after two of the unions confirmed they would not vote to ditch the nuclear deterrent because of concerns it would put jobs in Barrow-in-Furness and Faslane in jeopardy.
More follows...
Looks like Corbyn is falling at the first hurdles. He also made a complete ar@e of himself over Scottish matters (which I will not inflict on Gentle Readers) earlier today, by, well, lying.
So far, I'm seeing nothing to change my first impressions of him as a hollow man. He's not supposed to run away from challenges from unions, FFS, and ditch one of his own most sacred shibboleths....

Re: Hopey-changey in the UK
Bonny, there have been a slew of negative articles on him today alone. He has absolutely NO idea about financial affairs. He's an idiot if he thinks raising tax to 80% on the wealthy will work. They will just up sticks and move if that happens. Same for corporations.
Heaven help everyone if the railways go backwards to the days of strikes, inefficiency and dirty trains etc..... At least you have the hope that they are cleaner and on time now.

Re: Hopey-changey in the UK
Most of the time they are, Lily - the catering's certainly a vast improvement on British Rail. Not that that would be hard....
The Trident business is about as bad as it gets for Corbyn, IMO. Whatever one's own views, that one has been set in stone for decades for all true lefties. They thought they were getting someone who would champion their views, not least because he agrees with them.
Instead, he's fallen at the first hurdle AND backed down to the unions, all in one go. Even I didn't expect him to be quite as hollow and weak as this....

Jeremy Corbyn will work with SNP to remove Trident
25 September 2015
From the section Scotland politics
Note the date - just two days ago. I don't see him lasting a year at this rate. He's one of life's failures, IMO. Never had a proper job in his life, but has spent more than THREE DECADES making right-on, lefty noises from one of the cushiest seats in the UK.
Now he's being forced to deal with the real world, instead of spouting cliches at demos, and he is plain and simply incompetent, useless and generally in over his head.

http://news.sky.com/story/1559948/pm-says-hes-too-busy-to-sue-lord-ashcroft
David Cameron has told Sky News he won't be taking legal action against Lord Ashcroft over his controversial biography because he is "too busy running the country".
But in his first television interview on the subject, the Prime Minister also hit out at the former party donor's book saying people would "see right through it".
The book makes a number of controversial claims including an allegation that while at university the Prime Minister took part in a bizarre student ritual involving a dead pig.
This had been dismissed as nonsense by sources close to the PM when it was published as part of a newspaper serialisation last week.
Mr Cameron told Sky News: "Frankly this book was written for a very clear reason and I think everyone can see right through it."
Then, asked if he would take legal action, he said: "No, I'm too busy running the country taking decisions, getting on with work.
"If you do a job like this, you do get people who have agendas and write books and write articles and write all sorts of things. The most important thing is not to let it bother you and get on with the job."
Lord Ashcroft - who gave the Conservatives £8m while the party was in opposition and led a drive to win marginal seats - has said he decided to write the book when Mr Cameron declined to reward him with a sufficiently senior job in government when he came to power in 2010.
Sky News also probed the Prime Minister on questions Lord Ashcroft raised about when Mr Cameron knew about his tax status.
The peer claims Mr Cameron knew he was a 'non-dom' in 2009, although when the story emerged in March 2010 the Prime Minister said he had only known about it for a month.
Mr Cameron said: "I dealt with all of that before the election and indeed we made a law to make sure you couldn't be a non-dom and sit in Parliament."
What an absolutely awesome bit of slithering out of trouble, while dissing the source of the trouble! Dave truly is Teflon-coated. In the long run, no-one (apart from a few moralisers) is going to care about the story, let alone whether it's true or false.
All that will be remembered is the hilarity it caused for a day or so.

And he said that Labour would challenge the Conservatives on cuts, saying the party's message was: "You may be born poor but you don’t have to stay poor. You don’t have to live without power and without hope.
"You don't have to set limits on your talent and your ambition - or those of your children."
Er, isn't that capitalism, not socialism?

Oh, we have a comment from Evil Clarrie on the matter:
Clarence Mitchell @mitch_1uk 5h5 hours ago Brighton, England
A kinder, gentler politics from @jeremycorbyn? Tell that to some of the hard left, intolerant, score settling bully boys hiding behind him
Frankly, anyone that bleats about 'kinder, gentler politics' should stick to growing his own yoghurt in Islington; politics are horrible and ruthless, and always have been.
Just wait till Corbyn starts purging Labour of suspected 'Blairists', or anyone that doesn't believe in the Money Tree.

http://news.sky.com/story/1561154/corbyns-speech-was-offered-to-ed-miliband
Jeremy Corbyn took some passages of his conference address from a speech offered to Ed Miliband four years ago.
The Labour leader's team consulted speechwriter Richard Heller in the last few days, and there are some striking similarities between Mr Corbyn's conference address and a speech that Mr Heller wrote in 2011.
A spokesman for the Labour leader said: "Heller was approached because Jeremy Corbyn thought some of his material captured what he wanted to say and he gave permission."
Mr Heller titled his speech You Don't Have To Take What You're Given, and added: "This would be a good general theme for Ed Miliband and the party.
"The following passage might work well in his conference speech or in any other occasion for setting out his basic values."....etc.
