Argentine conscript speaks of Falklands abuse by superiors
In 1982, about 10,000 Argentine soldiers were sent to the Falkland Islands to gain control of the territory from Britain, which had governed the islands - known as Malvinas in Argentina - for 150 years.

The brief war cost the lives of more than 900 soldiers, mostly Argentines.

But for many young Argentine conscripts, the enemy was not the British troops, but their own superiors.

About 700 secret files released by Argentina's armed forces reveal that Argentine soldiers were subjected to abuse and torture at the hands of their officers during the 10-week conflict in the South Atlantic.   More at link

I wondered how long it would be before the truth emerged.   LL

I know, LL, the sheer horror of that regime in Argentina is often glossed over. Its destruction was one of the good side effects of the war.

I never heard any of this before but oh my, what an awful thing to have happened.  

I sometimes used to go to work wearing my The Empire Strikes Back t-shirt.  Showing the British Isles and the Falklands.  

There were a lot of anecdotal stories flying around at the time, Lily. Not about torture as such, but the poor state of the young Argentinian conscripts, who didn't seem to have had a hot meal for weeks.

We never heard any of that here in the US, Bonny, as far as I am aware.  I would have been saddened for them.
