Russia backs Argentina's bid for Falklands negotiations with UK 20:59 June 10, 2013 Interfax
Russia supports Argentina's bid for talks with Britain on sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday. "We support the determination of Argentina to start direct bilateral negotiations with Britain with the aim of the earliest possible settlement of the sovereignty dispute over the Malvinas Islands with numerous UN resolutions being taken into account. We are determined to continue to maintain this approach, including at the UN Special Committee on Decolonization," Lavrov said in an interview in Buenos Aires on Monday. Foreign policy More about Russia's foreign policy "Just as Latin American countries and their associations, Russia is against the militarization of the South Atlantic and stands for strict compliance by all the parties of their international commitments under the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (Tlatelolco Treaty) and the Additional Protocols to it. We consider it important that the parties to the dispute should avoid any moves that can preclude negotiations," Lavrov said. Argentina lays claim to the Falklands, which it calls Malvinas Islands and which have belonged to Britain since the 1830s, and lost a brief war with Britain in 1982 over the islands.

What a cheek. Belonged to Britain since the 1830s, and lost a brief war with Britain in 1982.
Just how many Argentinians have lived on The Falkland Islands since 1830. Where were they when the going was really rough and basic. A bit of financial help from Argentina might have helped during knocking on 200 years.

It's a cheek, but I had a feeling that might be coming. Cameron and Obama have been joined at the hip recently so it makes good political sense to use the Falklands to get at the UK.
