What do Isis really want?
When I was living in the M.E. this (not ISIS) was something I asked about. I had read about it somewhere that day and wanted some clarification. People were always ready to answer my questions and ironically, they were always local men.
So, I knew they too had an End of Days scenario just like in the Bible.
So, guess what? That is what ISIS are now involved in and I heard it this morning on TV. (sigh) It's the Crusades all over again.
This is an article being referred to. It is long but hang in there if you can.

Re: What do Isis really want?
“The problem,” he explained, “is that when places like Saudi Arabia just implement the penal code, and don’t provide the social and economic justice of the Sharia—the whole package—they simply engender hatred toward the Sharia.” That whole package, he said, would include free housing, food, and clothing for all, though of course anyone who wished to enrich himself with work could do so.
Oh, more believers in the Magic Money Tree.

Re: What do Isis really want?
That's a very good piece, Lily, I am glad to see a few things spelled out about their religious motivations. I still suspect there are some very UN-religious people hiding behind the curtain, though.

Re: What do Isis really want?
I was glad to see it cut through this bizarre mantra that ISIS has nothing to do with Islam, when it so glaringly obviously has.
Now, their cult may bear no resemblance to the moderate/secular followers of Islam that we generally know - not least because hard-liners avoid mixing with the likes of us - but that does not mean these scumbags are not basing their beliefs on the Koran.
Why some have been at such great lengths to deny the obvious, I do not know.
. But Muslims who call the Islamic State un-Islamic are typically, as the Princeton scholar Bernard Haykel, the leading expert on the group’s theology, told me, “embarrassed and politically correct, with a cotton-candy view of their own religion” that neglects “what their religion has historically and legally required.” Many denials of the Islamic State’s religious nature, he said, are rooted in an “interfaith-Christian-nonsense tradition.”
Quite.
Western officials would probably do best to refrain from weighing in on matters of Islamic theological debate altogether. Barack Obama himself drifted into takfiri waters when he claimed that the Islamic State was “not Islamic”—the irony being that he, as the non-Muslim son of a Muslim, may himself be classified as an apostate, and yet is now practicing takfir against Muslims. Non-Muslims’ practicing takfir elicits chuckles from jihadists (“Like a pig covered in feces giving hygiene advice to others,” one tweeted).
Does that mean even they think Obama is evil?

Fierce battle: The conquest of Constantinople by the Ottoman Turks saw the most famous of Christian capitals transformed into a bastion of Islam. Year after year, Turkish forces probed Christian defences

A historical take on things - it's about time people paid attention to the 1,300 year background to all this. Because you can be sure the jihadists do, that they know the name Charles Martel, about Lepanto - and what this means:

Re: What do Isis really want?
I know, they take a very short-view of history, Lily. Yes, invading Iraq, overthrowing Gaddafi and trying to regime-change Syria have opened the gates of Hell - but only because toppling the strongmen led the crazies escape. It doesn't mean the crazies weren't there all along.
And Obama's slapdash drone programme also gave the crazies a perfect recruiting tool. I don't care how terrorists get killed, but I DO care when, repeatedly, innocent people are wiped out by these damned drones.
It also doesn't help that - with fairly good reasons - ISIS regards the West as weak, spineless and immoral. Look at those crybaby 'activists' - they would be utterly useless in any real emergency.

Re: What do Isis really want?
http://www.infowars.com/pew-poll-63-million-muslims-support-isis-in-eleven-countries/
A new poll by the Pew Research Center reveals significant levels of support for ISIS within the Muslim world. In 11 representative nation-states, up to 14 percent of the population has a favorable opinion of ISIS, and upwards of 62 percent “don’t know” whether or not they have a favorable opinion of the Islamist group.
In Pakistan, a nuclear weapons state, only 28 percent of the public view ISIS unfavorably. By this overwhelming degree of either tacit support or tolerance for ISIS in the country, ISIS should be considered as a potential proxy nuclear weapons power via its linkages and support within Pakistan.
When broken down by ethnicity and religion, the results are equally troubling. In Israel, 4 percent of its Arab population – which equates to more than 66,000 individuals – have a favorable view of ISIS…
… For these 11 nation-states alone, the favorability ratings for ISIS reported by the Pew poll are indicative of at least 63 million ISIS supporters – and potentially upwards of 287 million if the undecided are included in the calculation.

I don't think opinion polls are allowed in Saudi, are they, Lily? Unless the answer is 110% of Saudis think the monarch is doing a fantastic job.

Oh, I've just come across a bit about a Saudi opinion poll...
http://new.spectator.co.uk/2015/11/is-this-the-beginning-of-the-end-of-liberal-democracy/
In a poll conducted in Saudi Arabia last year, 92 per cent of respondents believed ‘IS conforms to the values of Islam and Islamic law’.
I see.

Can't get more authority on it than that no matter how many people claim ISIS is NOT Islamic.

Re: What do Isis really want?
This 'ISIS has nothing to do with Islam' is utterly, utterly stupid. Of course it has to do with islam - many would argue that it is pure islam, because all their deranged beliefs, all their atrocities, are justified by the koran.
Why else do people think they particularly hate Assad, a genuinely moderate Muslim, who regards protecting Christians and other minorities as one of his duties? Good Lord, they even hate Iran and the Hezbollah for being Shia and therefore not islamic enough.
It's like claiming the Spanish Inquisition had nothing to do with Catholicism, or nazis had nothing to do with Germany.

Re: What do Isis really want?
It was absolutely appalling, Lily. If the walking binbags hate Britain so much, then I for one would encourage them to naff off to ISIS as quickly as possible - providing their passports are cancelled so they can't come back.
