Four people have been killed, including the attacker, after a suicide bombing on Istanbul's main shopping street, the city's governor has said.

Vasip Sahin said 20 people were injured, three of them seriously, in the blast outside a local government office in Istiklal Street, which is lined with shops, cafes, restaurants and foreign consulates.

Israeli citizens are among the wounded, an Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

A witness told the Reuters news agency they saw police helicopters circling overhead, and television footage showed people running from the scene.

Police have sealed off part of the street, which adjoins Taksim Square in the European part of the city, and a forensic team is at the scene.

t comes as Turkey is on edge after two suicide bombings in the capital, Ankara, including one earlier this month that killed 37 people.

Another attack in the city in February killed 29 people.

Both of those attacks were claimed by a Kurdish militant group that is an off-shoot of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK.

At least 11 people have been killed and 36 others injured after a bomb attack on a police vehicle, Istanbul's governor has said. The deadly explosion ripped through central Istanbul near a university and tourist sites during the morning rush hour.

"Seven law enforcers and four civilians have died in the attack,” Istanbul Governor Vasip Sahin told reporters. “Thirty-six people have been injured, three are in critical condition.”

Citing a police source, Turkish broadcaster NTV reported that some 14 people have been injured in the attack, eight law enforcers among them.

It's a great shame, Lily, Turkey used to be a very popular holiday destination, and islam was no more important than Catholicism is in Spain.

Erdrogan is destroying the country, turning back the clock and running the country into the ground. Remember, they lost the huge Russian market when Turkey shot down that fighter jet.

Two explosions have hit the main airport in Istanbul, a Turkish official has said, with reports saying several people have been wounded.

Reports say gunfire was heard in the car park of Istanbul Ataturk Airport, while footage showed people running for cover inside the building.

Taxis were ferrying the wounded from the hospital, witnesses told CNN Turk.

Ambulances were also seen rushing to the scene.

The attackers detonated their explosives at the entrance of the international terminal before entering the X-ray security check, the official said.

"Unfortunately 10 people have been killed according to a preliminary toll," justice minister Bekir Bozdag told parliament in Ankara.

The Foreign Office is investigating after Turkey says 13 foreigners are among the victims - three of whom were dual nationals.

At least 41 people have been killed after three suicide bombers opened fire before blowing themselves up at Istanbul's main airport.

Officials said the number of dead is likely to rise to 50, while Turkey's prime minister said Islamic State militants appeared to have carried out the attack, which left around 239 people injured.

Witnesses said one attacker opened fire in the departures hall with an automatic rifle, sending passengers diving for cover, before all three blew themselves up in or around the arrivals hall a floor below.

Dead bodies could be seen scattered in the road just outside the terminal building, while video emerged showing a police officer shooting one of the attackers, then fleeing moments before they detonated their suicide vests.

Foreign Office officials said they were "urgently seeking further information" after Turkey said the majority of those killed were Turkish, but 13 foreigners were also among the victims - three of whom were dual nationals.

A suicide bomber has attacked the Saudi city of Medina, close to the Prophet's Mosque, one of Islam's holiest sites, according to local media reports.
The bomber detonated his device as security officers were breaking their Ramadan fast, al-Arabiya TV said.
News outlets said at least two of the officers had been killed, but there has been no official confirmation.
The mosque is the burial place of the Prophet Muhammad and Medina the second-holiest city in Islam after Mecca.
State-linked Sabq news and the Okaz newspaper also carried reports of the suicide attack.
Earlier, at least one explosion rocked the eastern city of Qatif.
Qatif is home to many minority Shia Muslims and the blast appeared to target a Shia mosque. The attacker was killed but no other casualties were reported.
A suspected suicide bomber also died after detonating a device near the US consulate in the city of Jeddah. Two security officers were slightly injured as they tackled the man, but no-one else was hurt.
